Sorry if this is in the wrong topic! I didnt know where else to put it! Lol

so ive been browsing the net and come across cloth nappies. Lookin for help from ladies who have used/use them.

im pregnant with my first child -- due december and money is and will be tight. Ive read that cloth nappies save lots of money in the long run. Im just wondering are they useful? How do they work? Do u just wash after every use/every time they are wet and then use again? This seems a bit too much like hard work?? And are they suitable from birth? Im open to the idea of trying them just want some expert advice from u ladies!! :)

I have never used a disposable nappy. DS was in cloth from birth at 33 weeks. You just chuck them in a bucket and wash when you need to. DS was an unexpected baby when I was a student and had no money. I spent £30 on various second hand nappies. £30. Then, when he was 18 months, he potty trained himself. Honestly! Now expecting DC2 and have somehow lost my stash of nappies! There have been tears! I'd totally recommend two-part nappies, where you have some sort of absorbent thing, then you put a waterproof wrap over the top. They come up very cheap second hand, dry faster, and seem to be more adjustable in the fit.

Good luck! I will never use a disposable!

I used cloth nappies too. Don't forget to buy some thin fleece to put inside the nappy to wick the moisture away. I then used to put a nappy liner on top of it to catch poo. I bought some of the local market and cut it up into usable size pieces.

I also bought some cheap terry which I used instead of baby wipes. I bought a small spray bottle and made up my own liquid to spray (although you can of course just use water). Mine was almond oil, tea tree oil (one drop), water, tiny drop of weleda bath lotion. It lasts for ages and is so much cheaper. Also the tea tree oil is a natural antibacterial and the almond oil makes the skin lovely and soft.

In the wash (I washed mine separately on 60 degrees), I would add a splash of white wine vinegar which is a natural antibacterial agent. Once a month I would blast the nappies on 90 degrees. Watch that your wraps don't get mixed up as it'll spoil them.

I had a mix of BTP and sized. I found the Motherease BTP the best and I loved their wraps too. They kept their softness.

There are second hand nappy sites out there and now Ebay have relaxed their rules on selling/buying second hand nappies. They never allowed you to sell in the past but now they do.

I loved bamboo nappies. They are much more absorbent but they do take longer to dry. This is something to consider during the winter months.

If you can, dry them on the line. The sun will naturally bleach them, especially if they are already white.

Can't think of anything else at the moment but I'm sure something will come to me later!

One thing I just remembered is, get yourself some nice, good quality muslin squares. You can use them for so many things Smile

"preloved" nappies have the advantage of being ..well.. used. Some people get put off cloth in the beginning because they don't absorb well until they have been washed a dozen times or so. Good to know even if you choose to buy new. You will find the intital spend alot though. It's not everyone's thing but I just picked up a set which new would have cost around 200 pounds on Free Cycle for nothing.

Hi... I bought little lamb bamboo for my first child and the bamboo took FOREVER to dry and became rough.... So i then bought terry ones and used them ntil my lo was 18 months . They were so bulky i then changed to disposables as couldnt get clothes on her bum lol.. Also she had dislocating hims and she was rying to walk properly and i felt hey werent helping... Have done lots of research this time and bought pop ins.... Which are all washed and ready to go lol. They are ones hat start out small with poppers and you pop them bigger so they area wone size fits all and therefore a little cheaper than buying in each age size x x x good luck eith what you decide x x i loved my reusables x lol
