Sounds stupid I know I've worked ther 4 years and had 2 sick days the whole time I've worked there. Where I work they are really funny on time off. There's so many pepole on long term sickness and my boss although nice, he's not very good as women's things lol. I'm only six weeks but my job involes heavy lifting not all the time but a few times every day. Should I tell work or wait awhile

I'm 4 weeks and I'm waiting, thinking ill tell them at 12 weeks :/ I'm scared too! Xxx

You can't be lifting so I would tell them soon. God luck xx

I felt the same, and I live overseas where there are no maternity laws and women are not protected.

Everything in the uk is on your side so go for it.

Good luck, I would tell your boss sooner rather than later, especially with the heavy lifting. I waited until 9 weeks to tell my boss & I wish I had told her sooner.
It was such a relief knowing someone else at work knew & not having to think up excuses for why you might be tired/ill etc.
Hope it goes well & remember to read up on your rights in case your boss isn't aware of them.

You need to tell them asap if lifting is involved.

I didnt find out I was PG until I was 24 weeks and put myself into some really dangerous situations (unintentionally of course) but it does make me shudder to think what could have happened if I had been seriously injured at work.

Its not worth the risk of worrying what your boss will make of it- and you are not 'sick' so nobody should be being funny with you for having 'time off'.

You should tell your boss ASAP. My organisation are pretty tough on sickness but have been amazing about my pregnancy. I told them at 5 weeks. I'm currently suffering with SPD and they are allowing me to work from home most days. You are protected by law - perhaps read up on your rights so you feel more confident. Good luck x

Hi. My job involves heavy lifting and for first 12 weeks I just told them I had a bad back and couldn't lift.
