Flying at 17 weeks pregnant - Clexane related

I'm currently in the States, due to fly back on Sunday. Originally we were doing all the flying in one day (two separate flights), but we've had to change it as I'm not well enough to do that.
We're now doing a 3 hour flight tomorrow, and the long haul flight on Sunday.

I was given Clexane for the travelling by my consultant, but am unsure whether I need to do an injection for the shorter flight tomorrow, or just for the long one. She said it lasts for 24 hours, so I could do one tomorrow morning, and then another on Sunday afternoon before we leave, but I'd rather not take it if it's not necessary.

I'd love some advice from anyone who knows about Clexane and flying, as I'm in a bit of a quandary.

Thanks Smile

I don't think I'll be able to get hold if her now. She's in Belgium so will have left work and doesn't work over the weekend.

If I'm I'm doubt I think I just won't take it tomorrow. I have stockings to wear too so hope I'll be okay with just them.

Just as a matter of interest charley, what was your dosage if you don't mind me asking?

I would do one both days as your pregnant, to be on the safe side, but I'm obviously not a doctor. However, I believe altitude/cabin pressure has an effect on your likelihood to clot, as well as dehydration and tendency to be stationary on flights, particularly long haul.

I also have a blood/clotting disorder, so started this pregnancy on aspirin and one injection of clexane per day. However, I still got clots in both my lungs at around 18 weeks. Pregnancy does increase the risk of clots quite significantly.

With the usual caveat of not knowing your particular history, I'd usually advise no need for the short haul flight- just stretch your legs every so often and keep well hydrated as Charley suggests. Keep it for the long haul. (I'm a GP in case your wondering if this is Dr Google talking).

I have to take clexane before long haul flights (my haematologist classes these as over 4 hours). You should be fine on the shorter flight - just take the usual precautions like stockings & moving & take the injection just before the long flight. If you want a bit more info, do pharmacists in the States have the necessary qualifications to offer a bit more advice?
