First baby due in next few months, and am planning on stocking up whenever I see sales.
However, have heard different things about not all nappies suiting all babies, and I don't want to stock up on the wrong thing!
So, am aware that size will depend on size of baby (obviously) but do babies really seem to have a preference for one brand over another? And which is the best one/one that most suited you?
Anything else I should stock up on at same time?

Thank you :)

When people are saying 1-2 packs, is that the small packs (28ish nappies) or the large packs (56ish nappies)?

BabyMamaDrama · 16/08/2013 16:52

I tried both Pampers and Aldi and found no difference so I stuck with Aldi!

We bought loads of pampers - when they were on special offer so v v cheap. If DD hadn't got on with them we would have been screwed, but luckily she did. We didn't need to buy any nappies for the first year.

When she was 2-ish we switched her to Lidl pull ups - no problems at all

wouldn't go mad stocking up because for all the reasons stated above. Also if you have a very small / prem baby you will need size Zero / micro. With DS2 I found it hard having all the size 1's stacked up (it was only 3 packets) for weeks while he was still dwarfed by the micros!

Pampers do feel very thin and soft, but I hate the way they smell when wet, so used boots own brand (staff discount + multibuys = well under 8p each).

Also a fan of pampers, they have a mesh lining which 'takes away' moisture. My dd spends 12 hrs overnight in her pampers and they are really absorbent.

I have always started with pampers for newborn bottoms then gone for shop brand ones once they are a little more robust about 12 months. Did try Huggies but they were tough and leaked a lot

SarahBumBarer · 16/08/2013 20:02

I LOVE Aldi nappies. They suited both my LO's - no leakage, DS1 had a bit of leakage in pampers and some nappy rash in Asda. No issues with Aldi and I have not used anything else with DD. Honestly I am a bit obsessive about Aldi nappies and I would publicise them for free Grin Also the Mamia nappy wipes from Aldi are excellent (wtf is wrong with huggies - they just disintegrate) and they are such good value.

Pampers smell bad... I kept changing my lo as thought it was her but its the nappies... I like asdas own the best as they are comfy and dont smell and she never leaked poo out of them sx x but i wuld try a small pack of each if i were you as others have suggested x x

PistachioTruffle · 20/08/2013 19:11

Steffnexis9, I'm so glad someone else thinks Pampers smell bad, I was beginning to think it was just me! I'm pregnant with dc1 and bought a pack of pampers from boots to get the free changing bag, got them home and couldn't work out what the nasty chemically smell was - turns out its the nappies!
I got a sample pack of the aldi nappies in an emmas diary pack, opened them up and they don't smell of anything! They also feel much softer and less plasitcky than the pampers, so I might go for those. The sainsburys own brand ones feel soft and unsmelly too, no idea how they work in action though!
