Im 9 weeks pregnant, had scan today which showed all is ok and strong heart beat so that has been of some comfort.
However tomorrow at 6 a.m i am flying to majorca with my kids and dp. It was booked well before pg and this pg wasnt planned as i would'nt have chosen to be going abroad when pg.
But as it stands im going because my kids would be heart broken if we canceled but im starting to feel pretty stressed about things now.
Midwife says no problem going as i have no history of mc or implications with previous 2 dcs but this still is'nt stopping me from stressing.
Im worried about the flight/heat/food/the fact im shattered, etc.
Im putting on a front so i dont put a downer on things for them but inside im stressing.
Anyone else go in holiday at this stage or there abouts and how was it?

Hi I went to visit my family in the states at 10 weeks and everything was absolutely fine. I would recommend wearing flight socks just in case and make sure you stay hydrated. Enjoy your hols!

Peacenquiet2 · 15/08/2013 19:57

Thanks for your quick reply mls, i hav'nt got any socks so ile look in boots in the airport, even thinking about the airport makes my stomach churn! :-

Good to hear all was ok for you though :-)

I went to the states at 9 weeks. It was fine. I even went on a light aircraft scenic flight over the Grand Canyon (which you're not supposed to do but I didn't know that...)

FraggleRock77 · 15/08/2013 19:59

I got married on a beach in Florida at 5 Wks and flew back at 7 Wks. All was fine. Just walk around and drink lots on the plane. Enjoy Grin

elQuintoConyo · 15/08/2013 20:05

Do as you have been in the heat of the UK summer:

Stay in the shade as much as possible.
Lots of liquids - water preferably.
Lots of relaxing and taking it easy.
Lots of test and naps.
^^ these last two depend entirely on your other dc!
Sit down lots.

Don't worry about the flight, it is short. Perhaps have a couple of placcy bags with you you can vom into! And for the airport transfer in Mallorca, too. Spain is very well air conditioned, so you shouldn't feel too hot when you are indoors.

In case you forget any medication, CARIBAN is available over the counter in pharmacies for nausea. TARDYFERON are iron supplements, also if you've forgotten your own.

Over all, just breathe and try to relax Thanks

Nellysgirl · 15/08/2013 20:38

Hi! I went to tenerife at 10 weeks and was fine except I was a bit of a party pooper for my DF since I was ready for bed at 8pm every night. Oh and had nosebleed on plane but not too gruesome.
Just come back from Greece at 30 weeks and that was fine too.
I agree it's a bit scary when u feel vulnerable but you will be fine I'm sure. Xxx

Peacenquiet2 · 15/08/2013 21:08

Thanks so much for the replies and advice everyone, its reassuring to know that other people have survived this okay.
Nelly thats one of my worries that i wont have energy to stay up for the entertainment and i know my family will feel let down if im wanting to go to to bed early on holiday. Im hoping ile be able to get my dcs to have afternoon naps so i can sneak one in!
Elquinto ive made a note of those things just in case. God i never thought somthing thats meant to be relaxing would be making me feel so stressed!

I flew to Australia at 6 weeks. Felt a bit queasy on the 2nd leg as the food was horrible, so I would take snacks, drink a lot of water and take an aisle seat so you can get up and down to stretch your legs/visit loo.

MarianForrester · 15/08/2013 21:30

Honestly, you'll be fine! I took dd to Disney Paris when I was about your stage, had previously had mc and was bit worried, but was absolutely fine (notwithstanding the sheer filthy horribleness of the trip!)

Mallorca is a place that you would be well looked after in the unlikely event of any problem, so just relax and enjoy yourselfSmile

Ra88 · 15/08/2013 21:33

I went to turkey when I was 8 weeks pregnant and it was 42 degrees! I had a lovely time !! keep bump covered when Lying in the sun , plenty of water and suncream ! use bottled water for teeth /face .

enjoy !!

Longdistance · 15/08/2013 21:38

I flew to Oz, and travelled Sydney, Melbourme, Perth at 9wks pg.

You'll be fine.

Have a lovely holiday.

MummyJetsetter · 15/08/2013 21:56

You'll be absolutely fine, I'm near the end of my second pregnancy and go away often as we love our hols and also have family abroad. 1st pregnancy went away at 12 weeks to fuertaventura and 30 weeks to Abu Dhabi. This time went at 6 weeks to venice then at 18 weeks to Qatar then Dubai. Never had any trouble. Most important of all is to enjoy a nice glass of wine when you fancy it! x

Peacenquiet2 · 15/08/2013 21:57

Oh thanks again for the further replies, its all helping me to try and focus on the positive!

I went to Beijing on honeymoon at 7 weeks. It was tough and i was tired and rather nauseous the whole time but it's totally doable. I still had a great time, just struggled a bit more than I would have had i not been pg. I just watched what I ate and made sure I had plenty of liquids.

capitola · 15/08/2013 22:51

I don't really know what you're worrying about tbh, do you have bad sickness?

I flew in early and very late pregnancies, including long haul at 30 weeks. All was fine. I even went scuba diving at 8 weeks as I didn't know I was pg.

Relax and enjoy your break.

Lottiesmama312 · 15/08/2013 22:57

I flew to kuala lumpur and Bali at 11 weeks! And was fine! I had even had a little spotting at 8 weeks but my doctor assured me all would be well, which is was! My 8 month old is a testament to this!
Like others have said just stay safe in the sun! I made sure my bump (albeit no existent at that point!) was cool always!
Have a lovely holiday! Smile

CrispyFB · 15/08/2013 23:11

You will be absolutely fine - probably do you some good actually! Lots of nice fresh air and a break in routine - sounds wonderful to me!

The only thing I would say is make sure you have decent travel insurance. Not that anything will happen I am sure, but for peace of mind if nothing else.

syl1985 · 16/08/2013 02:45

I hope that you'll or if you read this later, have enjoyed your holiday.

It's ok to fly as your midwife has told you.
Yes, it's true things might go wrong. You are not that far, so it could go wrong.
But you don't need to be on holiday for that. Things might also go wrong if you stay at home.

Make sure you're well insured that if something would happen while you're on holiday that you could go to a doctor or visit a midwife over there.

Try not to be to worried. Things might go wrong, but most pregnancies do end in hospital with you holding a lovely beautiful healthy baby.

Tea1Sugar · 16/08/2013 02:47

I've just come back from Majorca and found out I'm pregnant on the return day. All I'll say is right now it is VERY hot there, big heat wave so drink water like its going out of fashion!

MooseBeTimeForSpring · 16/08/2013 02:54

You'll be fine. I sold a house, arranged for shipping of the contents and emigrated to Canada without knowing I was pregnant. You'll be fine! :)

KarmaBiatch · 16/08/2013 03:08

I was the same as moose.. and have done 6 return longhaul flights since! I, now, live in a country that tops the charts with heat and humidity and am coping, although I live most of my life in my air-conditioned home and really suffer from sweaty balls when I step outside Grin

beginnings · 16/08/2013 03:14

I did LOADS of reading about this when I was pg with DD. we spent three years trying to have her so I was extremely nervous. I flew from London to Dublin at 6 and 32 weeks and to Nice at 23 weeks and was fine. There is no evidence to say that moderate flying is a problem. The only reason it's sometimes not advised is if you have an unrelated problem and there's a risk something could happen when you're away.

Go and have fun and stay hydrated!

Sleepthief · 16/08/2013 07:37

I had a two-week holiday in turkey when 9-weeks PG with DC2. Was absolutely fine (apart from morning sickness/food aversions and somewhat crap all-inclusive food - bleurgh!)

GeppaGip · 16/08/2013 09:19

i went to tunisia at 18 weeks in july. it was 40 degrees and counting Shock. i survived. i had a fantastic time and the only thing that happened health wise was spending 1 day on the loo courtesy of tunisian cuisine. i even did the flight and holiday wirh my two year old who is in general a total nightmareGrin you will be fine. the holiday wont hurt you. the only thing i would say is you are brave. at 9 weeks i couldn't peel myself off the sofa. by the time i went away i had more energy than the toddler. enjoy your hols, stay in the pool and relax!

LittleMachine · 16/08/2013 20:01

I'm just back from Menorca, and I'm 9 weeks and have hyperemesis - I was really worried too.
I didn't find it too hot, I sat under the umbrella a lot and slept in the day every day. I let DP do the running round after DS.
We were on half board so the food was pretty bland which suited me. I had a really good time considering. I think it was about 28-30 degrees most days and there was a breeze.

You'll be fine don't worry. Have a lovely time.
