Hello all,

Currently 24 weeks and every night in bed having horrible restless legs stopping me from sleeping. DH is in spare room now so I don't keep him awake all night. Any tips from fellow sufferers on how to deal with it?

Thanks x

Make sure your drinking enough water, and try eating a banana every evening - can help with correcting sodium / potassium levels.

Get some magnesium supplements from H&B or Boots (I started on H&B but changed to boots as also had in calcium and vit D so worked out cheaper!) They really do work. I suffered terribly and with cramps too, barely get any restless legs, just a vague fizzing occasionally, and only now in the last stage of pg (40w today!) am I getting the odd cramp again. Nowhere near as severe though.

Make sure you are not walking too much. I've found that when I have a day that involves lots of walking it's a lot worst in bed at night.

A warm bath at night helps my legs relax too. Even if I just have my legs in the water for 15 minutes instead of a proper bath.

Body Shop peppermint leg and foot gel is good too, or a moisturiser just before bed. Try doing some leg stretches as well - standing on tip toes one leg stretched out behind you and try bring it down so your foot's flat on the floor - helps me prevent cramps as well.

When I get this I do some stretches and it really helps. Also sit with legs out straight and rotate ankles and then point toes. This is from prenatal yoga and helps to cleans the lymphatic system apparently but seems to help my jumpy legs

Hi love cookies!
I struggled with this myself. Tried creams/tablets etc.
just recently I have discovered the cure! Blended two bananas as a drink at bedtime, followed by warm bath and its a magic cure. Please please try it. Will change your life! Oh and a pregnancy pillow xxx
Let us know how you get on Smile

Thank you all, I shall try and do what I can tonight with some specific leg exercises and stretches as normally I'm sat up in bed massaging them which doesn't seem to do much. Tomorrow I shall pop to shops and stock up on bananas and supplements and drink plenty of water (not brilliant at that) so watch this space Smile x

I'm suffering with this too. It's a total nightmare, especially as we have an early rising toddler too. I'm glad there are some things to try. I get it in my upper legs and I'm a little shy to say that having an orgasm helps mine! Just thought I'd put it out there!

Moxiegirl · 13/08/2013 20:47

Horrible isn't it! I found a warm bath helped a bit. I used to have restless arms too Confused

Nellysgirl · 13/08/2013 20:59

I've been trying banana smoothie for about 2 weeks. The only time I had restless legs was the night I forgot to have one. Other than that I was uncomfortable the night I had just one but nothing like as bad as before xx

Nellysgirl · 13/08/2013 21:00

I mean just one banana in the drink. Usually have two x

I suffered from this. Found it was if I didn't take my vitamins (pregnacare) and if I didn't get enough calcium so upped milk intake.
