Congratulations Smile

You should definitely tell them after your scan so they can carry out a risk assessment for you (which they have to do).

My boss was very supportive but it's still nerve-wracking telling them...just say "can we have a word privately", I think a lot of people will then guess what you're about to tell them Wink

Good luck and hope you get an OK reaction (if it's crap then maybe plan to meet some friends soon after so you can have a more positive experience to counteract it?)

Congratulations Op Flowers

Sorry you are so worried and it's unfortunate your boss sounds like a total twat. You don't need to tell your employer until at latest 15 weeks before your due date when you hand your MAT B form in. I would however recommend you tell them after your 12 week scan so they can do the work risk assessment. It is against the law for you to be discriminated against because of your pregnancy. What type of contract do you have in place with your employer (permanent, self employed, zero hours etc.)? Does your employer have a maternity policy?

I told work when I was 9 weeks however this was because I was diagnosed with HG and I have been extremely ill throughout my pregnancy. I asked for a meeting and told them I was pregnant, very ill and may need to work from home on my really bad days. They were fine and I have had to work from home a lot since. My employers are extremely supportive and they have been very flexible. Their concern is the baby's health, my health and ensuring we continue to win new client tenders but they understand this can only be done if they work with me. But I have also kept them fully informed with regards my intentions on ML so we can plan ahead for my time off and return to work. I am very lucky because the company I work for has an extremely supportive enhanced maternity policy. And as long as the employee doesn't take the piss they will bend over backwards to support you. if you take the piss they will legally manage you out quicker than you can blink

24 weeks. I had no bump and no one guessed. Whilst they were quite understanding at the time it's been a nightmare since (I live overseas so maternity laws non existent).

First time ever that I've longed to be back in the uk and looked after work wise.

Good luck, I dreaded telling my boss but the relief afterwards was immense.

Had to tell mine early beacuse of horrendous morning sickness. About 7 weeks I think. He was very nice and supportive - you might be pleasantly surprised. Regardless though, you'll have to tell at some point and 12 weeks is a standard time. Good luck!

I told mine at 8wks because I was excited and wanted to tell someone, very supportive boss though and its had no affect on my work so far (37wks).

I would tell them sooner rather than later as they need to do a risk assessment and you need to protect yourself and bb and limit heavy lifting, etc to what you can safely manage.

Can you go with some ideas of how your role can be altered and put a positive spin on it so its not just I can't do x,y,z now becasue I'm preg? And more I can't do x,y,z but I can do ... training/metoring others/paperwork projects/filing that needs doing etc.

I told my boss within a few days of finding out! I'm diabetic and within 24hours of finding out I was pregnant had to go see my diabetes consultant so they could check my bloods etc. At that appointment I was given an appointment at the specialist pre natal diabetes clinic less than a week later. For the first appointment I gave them a load of bull about having had an appointment at the diabetes clinic cancelled a few times but they could see me that day, but couldn't use that one again so felt I had to tell them why I needed the time off.

I was absolutley terrified telling him, was physically shaking, but got to say thought I was pleasantly surprised by his reaction which was give me a congratulations hug, make sure I was ok and ask if there was anything I needed him to do straight away for me. I work for a small company which has been running less than 5 years and only started there in march this year, by June I was telling him I was pregnant so I really was nervous about it. My boss is also not known for being Mr nice guy either, if he's not happy about something you bloody well know it! But honestly he really couldn't be more supportive of me (though I am the first woman that's ever needed maternity leave so by his own admission he is completely clueless about what the law says about it, maybe when he knows he'll change his mind, lol!)

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is tell them when you feel ready, though given the type of job you do it does seem sooner rather than later may be for the best. Don't make a big thing of wanting to see them infront of anyone else just ask for a quick chat. If your really worried about them thinking your pregnancy will be an issue have a think about what you can do and what you absolutely cant do and explain that to them which will make them realise it's not as bad a situation they may think it is. I'm sure it wont be quite as bad as you think it will be, good luck!

Congratulations!

I told my boss as soon as I found out, pretty much, because I had to go to the early pregnancy unit for scans and blood tests regularly at the beginning.

He was lovely and gave me a hug. I didn't tell anyone else until 20 odd weeks, because I wasn't showing and I didn't want too!

I hope it goes well when you decide to tell. Your boss might surprise you.
