I'm 24 weeks PG today with twins and I've only put on 7lbs in total. Now, I have been in an out of hospital since the start of this PG currently in hospital after an iron IV.

With my previous twins I had put on at least 15+ lbs by 24 weeks.

Any advice/tips on how to get my weight up healthily. Just to note; I'm vegetarian but eat a lot of iron rich foods to compensate.

Were you a healthy weight to start with? the bigger you are at the start the less you 'need' to put on, I was half a stone overweight and had only gained a couple of pounds at 6 months, have more than caught up in the last couple of months though and have now put on 2stone.

But if dr's told you you need to gain more, and your not being sick anymore can you squeeze in an extra meal, sandwich/cereal for supper, and more carbs with dinner (less veg if you can't fit both in), gradually increasing quantities so your eating more healthy stuff rather than loads of sweets etc will of course be healthier.

Hi MultipleMama. I'm expecting twins too but they are my first so I've no idea really re:comparisons. Since we found out I'm carrying twins I've been working really hard to up my calorie intake with the good stuff and so far it seems to be going ok, I've found the best way is to eat lots of healthy snacks rather than bigger meals. I usually have an omelette mid-morning from the canteen at work then snack on fruit in the afternoon and have toast or cereal before bed, on top of normal meals. I'm currently 22 weeks, have gained about 9kg so far and feel like I'm all bump. Good luck with it, but do try not to worry - I'm sure the doctors will let you know if you need to take any drastic action.

I try to snack but between running after 4 dc and a dog. I seem to burn them off quicker than I eat them. I eat with the DC and even snack when they do but snacking usually makes me eat less of meals as I'm not that hungry any more plus I can't stomach smell of most food recently.

My consultant wants me putting more weight on. So I'm trying harder but my snacks (fruit, nuts etc) don't seem to really help my weight just make me full!

Talk says to try high calorie healthly meals but I have no clue what he means. Isn't high calories always unhealthy? Haha.

I'm vegetarian too and have a really fast metabolism. Whenever I've needed to get my weight up I've added stuff like extra bread (wholemeal), brown rice or quinoa as an extra side portion with meals, and healthy fatty things like extra olive oil on salads and avocados. Avocado on brown toast (I like it with a squidge of lime or lemon juice) whenever you can manage it as a snack might help! I also make granola packed with nuts, fruit and seeds (and not much sugar - plus I use honey anyway) and I reckon that must be at least 300 healthy calories per bowl. There are loads of recipes online.

That said - sounding all smug (homemade granola!) - I haven't felt like eating anything much since I found out I was pg and have been surviving so far mainly on Wotsits.

Magpie I have a fast metabolism too. I'm feeling hungry at just the mention of the food you've just listed, in my head it's like a M&S advert. Food porn, my DH would call it haha.

I make granola bars too but I make them into little balls, so I can pop them into my mouth with crumbs everywhere! Haven't had time to cook a lot lately been too exhausted, but your ideas sound really good. I'd prefer to add to my main meals than keep snacking.
