hi all, i usually sit on the july thread, this is my second pregnancy, and i am 18.5 weeks but i still haven't really felt any movement so to speak. a couple of flutters here and there, but now i'm not sure if it was indigestion or not. with ds i didn't feel him til i was 20 weeks, but since everyone says you feel it earlier with no.2 i am starting to get really worried. should i be do you think?

Madgirl,

I'm on no 2 also, and didn't feel movement earlier than I did the first time round. First movements for me this time around were circa 21/22 weeks

madgirl · 11/02/2004 10:16

handlemecarefully, that DOES reassure me, thank you. how many weeks are you now?

Madgirl - don't worry at not feeling movement just now. Within the next couple of weeks you will. Everyone is different.

handlemecarefully · 11/02/2004 10:25

Madgirl,

glad it helps....I'm 31 weeks now.

lydialemon · 11/02/2004 10:54

I think it depends on the way they are laying too. With DD I didn't feel her moving until way past the 20 week scan.

madgirl · 11/02/2004 11:26

i was determined not to stress in this pregnancy but here i go again.........tho last time i hadn't discovered mumsnet and boy does it make a difference having you guys

I might be speaking out of turn here, but I would say if you are worried (I am not suggesting that you should be!) then go and see the midwife. They will usually attach you to a monitor for a bit if you're concerned. It's just a nice reassurance

madgirl · 11/02/2004 11:50

mears do you think they would think i am neurotic (don't answer that!) i mean, do you think even calling them would basically make me feel more anxious, like there was sth to worry about? i think i will just try and relax. worrying about it is not going to make him/her move.

Madgirl, I am currently 30 weeks pregnant with no. 2 - I worried that I wasn't really feeling anything at about 20 weeks, and actually was only sure I was feeling movement maybe 4/5/6 weeks later.

madgirl · 11/02/2004 21:49

thanks hd, that is also very reassuring. do you find that the baby is in general very "quiet" compared to other people's reports on movements? i must admit, ds was never a big kicker (now explains his liking for "relaxing mummy" on the sofa in front of TV

Madgirl,

I've always been quite fascinated when other pregnant mums mention that it was painful or they felt winded or uncomfortable by some of babies painful kicks - because all I ever seem to feel is baby shifting around gently, and I couldn't describe any of the movements as 'kicks' as they aren't that powerful..... funny isn't it

mears · 12/02/2004 09:14

Madgirl - call your midwife for reassurance. It is no problem to have a listen in for you

Quackers · 12/02/2004 13:13

MG I posted on here yesterday but it doesn't seem to have come through! never mind! Hope you manage to get listened to, as Mears says it's no trouble!!

dot1 · 12/02/2004 13:35

HMC - my baby gives such strong kicks (am now heading for 34 weeks) that the other week I nearly fell off my chair - honest! It can shift my whole body sideways..! It's my first but I started feeling it from 16 weeks, which I know is early - it just must be a really kicky thing..!

Gumdrop · 12/02/2004 13:50

I would get your mid wife to have a listen, just for reassurance. I'm sure they wouldn't think anything of you asking.

shrub · 12/02/2004 13:51

madgirl - remember he/she will have a lot more room to move around this time thanks to ds1

madgirl · 12/02/2004 13:54

shrub- yes you may have seen a thread 2 or so wks ago about the fact that i seem to have gained an extraordinaryly (or not!) large amount of weight this time! baby is obviously treading water in there!

shrub · 12/02/2004 16:03

madgirl hope you didn't take that the wrong way - what i meant was on the inside the womb and pelvis being stretched and widened. i had to wee all the time throughout my last pregnancy - the midwife said it was due to more space from my ds1 so the baby sits lower in the womb.

hewlettsdaughter · 12/02/2004 20:29

I hadn't thought of that, shrub - that there might be more room on the inside (as it were), if you've given birth before. I've just been thinking this baby is quieter than my first - and I agree with you, HMC, I wouldn't call many of the movements I'm feeling now 'kicks'.
