Hi everybody I'm new to this site, I have just recently found out that me and my partner are having our 3rd baby I'm only a few weeks gone. Was just wondering if anyone else has had c sections then have virginal birth after, with my first born I only got to 3cm and ended up having an emergency c section, with my second a little girl was planned c section, I really want to give a go at virginal birth with my 3rd. I'm really nervous and scared already to think of going through another c section. Thanks for reading and will be nice for people's advice ect :)

Hiya I was you last year, although my first was a vaginal birth, second was EMCS for labouring a a breech baby, third was a planned section, for my fourth I was determined to VBAC and I could not believe how against it my hospital consultant was, he was so against the idea that I got a a second opinion, same hospital though, and he also was adamant that it was a bad idea, I felt so un supported by everyone because the professionals were so discouraging, my husband lost his confidence in me too, and was trying to persuade me to have a section for a a third time, any way I ignored them all and laboured on my own for as long as I could at home, then when at hospital, I Kid you not, the midwives were almost mocking me with " why are you trying to VBAC ?" So after 24 hours labour with failure to progress I ended up with another EMCS because they said that I was putting myself and my child at risk, I didn't argue with that, obviously, but the point is I gave it a bloody good try!! Good luck with what you decide to do.

Congratulations!

I will be trying for VBA2C in January.

Have a look at some of the links I have posted here and here.

Also have a look at the Spinning Babies website for exercises to help get your baby into the optimum position for birth. Sometimes failure to progress can be because the baby's head is not in the best position to encourage the cervix to dilate.

Every birth is different, if you go onto the yahoo VBAC group you will find ladies who have had successful vbac's after multiple CS. Just because you failed to progress with your first labour there is no reason to assume you wouldn't with this baby.

The risk of rupture is not drastically higher after 2CS than after 1CS, lots of consultants will quote much higher risks to you, but arm yourself with the facts and push for what you want.

Ask the midwives which consultants are pro VBAC and see them or discharge yourself from consultant care altogether. See the supervisor of Midwives and get them to sign your notes/birth plan so that on the day you do not have to fight with midwives to get the birth you wish. With my last attempt I refused continuous monitoring and will again this time as I do not want to be restricted. You can always change your mind at any time and they cannot do anything to you without permission (it is assault otherwise). They cannot 'allow' you to birth naturally either, it is your right to birth how you wish. The only thing they can do is say you can't be in the midwife led unit.

Donnadoon oh god I really hope I don't have to go through that again, - anotherstitchintime that's exactly what happend with my first his head wasn't in my cervix properly so there for I failed to Progress. It took me 48 hours with my first until they decided to call it a day and head me straight for an emergency c section. With my second I had the chance to choose I just booked straight in for a c section that was awful I was having panick attacks the lot was horrible. I have no idea what they will say about this pregnancy. I'm so so nervous already! I really just wanna. Try for a natural birth but I'm scared the same would happen with my first and I won't progress, my first was horrific I had major pains after my c section followed by an emergency c section. I'm just thinking is it worth the chance x

Have you had any post-birth counselling? The fear part is normal, but the hormones associated with fear can affect you in labour.

Some hypo- birthing techniques and a doula or independent midwife (if you can afford one) might help you keep calm in labour.

I understand how you feel, I had two EMCS after failed ventouse and forceps (the first time with no pain relief) and a haemorrhage during my last EMCS.

For me it is worth it to try as my youngest will be under 2 when this baby is born, six weeks with no lifting is going to make things difficult.

readysteady · 12/08/2013 09:37

I thought there was no more rick associated with VBA2C then one? Though I had a VBAC I had already had one normal birth then c section followed by VBAC good luck! Our local hospital is very pro VBAC even for 2 sections

Risk after 2 c sections is around 0.9% compared to 0.7% for 1. It depends on which research you read and their sample size etc. So not much different really.

Mumzieto2x · 12/08/2013 21:51

Thankyou for your comments and for making me understand a bit more, still unsure on what to choose I have heard so many bad stories on trying
For a virginal birth after 2 c sections. I just really don't like c sections, although I know it will be the safer option for me and my baby. I just would rather go through the more painful option (virginal birth) than be sore for weeks on end looking after a 5 year old 2year old and then would be a newborn, hthe fact of me worrying is if I tried going through a virginal birth is the same happening with my first (emergency c section) the doctors and midwife told me after that I was lucky to be alive just the thought of it really scares me So many people have told me why have another baby? It's because I love kids and I would happy have a big family. My partner provides for all of us and I work part time, I get judged by so many people having 3 kids at the age of 23. I think in mind it's my opinion. Let me know how u get on with your 3rd in January tryin to go natural after 2 c sections. :) xx

Hi, I am also hoping for a vba2c. First was breech so elective and second vbac failed to progress and since my waters had gone early on I ran out of time. My community midwife thinks it is very unlikely my consultant will support this though so I am not sure I will be determined enough. I plan to take a copy of the facts and figures to support my argument.

I was dreading labor so I joined a couple of classes but then the distance to get to them was too much. I checked online and found a site that offers a great resource that discusses VBAC in great detail at www.childbirthprogram.com. The kit I bought definitely helped me in overcoming my fears.

I'm 37 weeks with number 3 and also trying to decide whether to attempt a VBAC. I have a section scheduled for the 23rd Oct but really don't want to have it if I can help it; my first section was a dream but my second was awful (reacted to the anaesthetic, then to the anti-emitics they gave me, wound wouldn't close and 3 x post-op courses of antibiotics because of infections). I've also got a 5 year old and a 2 year old at home and can't really afford another long recovery. My DH just started a new job and won't be able to take more than a couple of days leave.

Fortunately my doctor is being fairly supportive of me trying for a natural birth but she has said she won't let me labour for more than 12 hours or go over 40 weeks. My midwife is saying she thinks there's at least a 50% chance I'll end up having to have a section anyway although I'm not sure what she's basing that statistic on!

Don't know what to do and am running out of time to make a decision...

Any positive 'VBAC after 2 sections' stories out there?!
