Acid reflux in first trimester.. treatment, and does it go away?

This is my sixth pregnancy that has got beyond the chemical stage. With all my other pregnancies, I never had acid reflux, except for with DS when I had it occasionally towards the very very end.

This time out.. WTF!! I feel like I am dying. There is no let up in it and it's getting worse and worse. It started around 5 weeks, and I'm now 7+1 and it's worse every day. Constant bile in my stomach/upper abdomen.

It's relieved for maybe an hour with the behind-the-counter super-strength Gaviscon. Rantidine improves it maybe 50% but it's still horrible.. AND, can I still take regular Gaviscon if I've taken the Rantidine? For a while, simeticone (e.g. Wind-eze) seemed to sort it but that no longer works now either.

Two questions:

  1. Best way to tackle this. Am I already doing everything I can or is there more? I am not totally happy throwing billions of pills at it either.

  2. Does it go away when the other first trimester symptoms go away (like nausea etc) or does it stick around forever, or worse, get worse. I figure it'll probably come back in the third trimester anyway, but I could somewhat use a break!

I have NO idea what is different about this pregnancy than the others (I have children of both sexes) and why suddenly this intense pain has come into my life 24/7.. the relentless nausea is bad enough but this is finishing me off!

The only things I can think of that might be different from my other pregnancies are the cup of tea a day I drink (cutting that out now..), I'm using progesterone cream until 10-12 weeks, and finally I am taking maca powder with fybogel (easiest way to take it for me) because I was using the maca to TTC and I'd heard anecdotally that stopping it in the first trimester could cause issues. Oh, and I'm three years older.

Help!! Thanks
