GD Small Baby / Breech / C Section...

Hi All,
Wondered if anyone can offer any advice/support or been in similar situations...
I'm 34 weeks on Saturday with our first baby, diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks due to polycystic ovaries (pre pregnancy weight 'normal') am currently on Metformin and 4x daily insulin injections with dose increasing all the time. Baby is measuring small which we've been told goes against the norm with GD. As of yesterday I have to go into the foetal well being unit at the hospital twice a week until he's born to be hooked up and monitored. Baby is also breech with his legs up by his face, he's been in this position for a long time so chances of him moving are slim. We are personally not a fan of manual turning so it looks like a caesarean will be booked in the next few weeks as can't go past 38 weeks because of GD.
Has anyone else experienced GD and a small baby? Or caesarean with frank breech? Midwife warned us yesterday his legs may remain 'up' for potentially a few hours/days/weeks after birth?!
Google is a terrible thing sometimes during pregnancy!
We're at the point where the worrying is taking over everything, luckily we are all good to go in terms of everything being ready and i'm now on maternity leave. The extra monitoring is of course reassuring but doesn't stop the worrying Hmm We just want him here safe and sound and in our arms!!
Thanks for reading xx

Hello, no experience of this but didn't want you to go unanswered and also bumping for you. I'm sure those more knowledgeable than me will be along later today. The reassuring thing is that things have been picked up and closely monitored. You sound very organised, but step away from google, it's not always your friend! Enjoy the remainder of your pregnancy Smile

I have GD along with polyhydramious. My baby is so far measuring on the smaller side of average despite my bump measuring a whopping 42 weeks when I am actually 31!! I am booked in for a section at 36 weeks.

I have a cerclage so lots of monitoring and they tell me the baby is small, at one point very worryingly so.

It has caught up a bit now but still small and I am most likely having a c section at 36 weeks like you. As there was a time when I never thought we would get this far, I would be delighted with 36 weeks.

At this point our babies are fully developed, lungs and all. They might need a little bit of help but I am sure all will be fine. Best of luck!

Thanks for your replies. Wishing you lots of luck for the remainder of your pregnancies. I didn't realise c section at 36 weeks could be an option - that's only 2 and a bit weeks away! We have a growth scan a week on weds - I'll be 35+4 so if he's still small do you think they'd book us in for section before 38 weeks? x

Anyone out there got GD on insulin and baby's small? Or a frank breech baby at 34weeks that doesn't look like he/she's turning?!
Would love to hear your experiences/stories x

My baby was frank breech and born by c section (he was breech all along we think) - his legs stayed a bit bent up for a few days (we'd lie him on his back and his legs would stick straight up, so he'd roll onto his side!) but sorted himself out after a couple of days, but stayed quite curled up for a few weeks, a bit longer than a typical newborn perhaps (measured very small when his length was measured at 6 weeks). Not a problem though! Also as he was breech he had to have a hip scan at about 8 weeks (standard procedure here) to check they were developing normally.

Thanks lovelyweather Smile we think he's been lying like that for ages! So chances of him moving are slim. We have only just been told about the legs in the air! How many weeks were you when you had the c section? Was it an ok experience? Thanks again x

Just want to say that the reason my section is scheduled for 36w is because of the polyhydramious. I also had it in my last pregnancy when baby was also breech and they sectioned me at 35w as the risk of cord prolapse was so high. Had steroids both times. Good luck

Thanks razzdazz Smile good luck to you too x
