Hello,

I?ve just found out we're pg with our first and I have to admit, I?m struggling to cope with all the information out there online. I?m reading articles that are conflicting with each other; some things are interesting while a lot seems junk/noise. The pure amount of stuff I?m trying to take in is hurting my head. Let along knowing where the good and trustworthy places to look are.

How does everyone cope? I?m trying to keep everything in my head but it?s sooo difficult to keep track. Feel like I?m missing something obvious!

Any advice would be great!

Thank you

Which one of you is pregnant?! Wink congratulations!

Stick with the NHS.

Basically: don't drink, smoke or take drugs. Paracetamol is ok. Check all other medicines with a doc or pharmacist. Get someone else to finish your soft cheese (Brie, not dairylea!) and pâté.

Runny eggs are probably ok, especially if they're lion stamped.

Try to relax. Enjoy the excitement. Sleep as much as you can while you still can.

And, erm, good luck!

(Did I get everything? It's been a while)

Oh, some caffeine is ok, just nt too much. Don't go cold turkey you'll get withdrawal headaches from experience

I'd personally go and buy a good book and just use the internet for chatting/ranting! Birth and Beyond has been a brilliant reference for my two pregnancies. I also hear good things about What to Expect, the Rough Guide etc. And I second NHS info, that will always be up to date.

This is my first pregnancy too and I know where you are coming from.

The way I am approaching this experience is by not looking too far in advance.

I didn't need to think about the nursery and baby stuff until I got through the first 12 weeks and saw the bean in my scan, so until then I looked into managin nausea, eating healthily, vitamin supplements, how the baby develops, and having fun keeping our little secret.

My dp and I have briefly talked about maternity leave before, but now our 20 week scan is this Thursday (excited and nervous) we will discuss more about our options so I dan tell work. There is no point in overloading your brain, but it is quite fun finding stuff out over the full term. So don't panic on the overload.

I also have a couple of apps that track my pregnancy and I make sure I don't make a habit of looking too far ahead. It makes it feels a little bit like Christmas each day, which also happens to be when I am due :)

Find out what you want and need to know, and make your own decisions. Eg, finding out the sex, we decided (last week) not to find out the sex, but that is our choice. Others want to know, and that is their choice.

Also, when I found out, we decided to tell noone, except my best friend because I needed to have a confidante who has been there and got the tee-shirt to just run things by her. Then I discovered this forum, which has been brilliant.

Just enjoy.

Congratulations!!

I have to admit, i didn't buy or read any proper books. I relied on speaking to friends, MN, anti natal classes and the info they give you for free in the bounty packs which you get at first MW appointment (but that was only to see how far developed baby was and basic advice on diet etc). I don't feel I missed out by not reading loads.
