I fell down the stairs this morning...

I was wondering if you lovely wise people could give me some advice. I'm 19 weeks. This morning I slipped on the stairs and fell about 5 steps on my bum. After I stood up I went really faint and just managed to lie lie down at the bottom of the stairs to avoid keeling over. Then I went really nauseous and vomited on the floor. The sickness was just like typical morning sickness when your hungry, there was nothing there and I ate immediately afterwards and felt better, although still shaken. I'm not feeling any movements yet so can't tell what bub is up to.

My question is, should I contact someone about this today? The community midwives aren't open today so is have to contact a and e or the labour ward, which seems crazy when I'm ok now. I also have a midwife appt tomorrow morning. But ..... A tiny part of me panicking that I should get it checked out ASAP just in case. I don't want to be a lax mother or an over paranoid one. Can anyone help?

Try drinking a glass of really cold water to get the baby moving. Could you call NHS Direct for some advice?

I am sure midwifes on labour ward won't mind you ringing. I was always told they would rather women ring them to check all ok then be sat at home worrying. They won't think you are paranoid. Hope you get some reassurance.

Do you have a go walk in service near you? If you are really worried go to A and E. Take a book or kindle. At least the triage nurses can keep an eye on you.

Thank you for such quick replies! I hate making a fuss and would always rather do nothing, but you've given me the confidence to try calling the labour ward for reassurance, thank you!

If you are worried, go to your out - of hours service. They may arrange a scan and will not be bothered at all by you presenting there. It sounds like your blood pressure might be a bit low if you are feeling dizzy. Perhaps this is why you fell downstairs?

Drink plenty of water and do go for a check up.

I hope your fears are eased and everything fine.

Labour ward were lovely! I have this image from spme bad experiences of health professionals all being terrifying, but I'm slowly learning most of them are great! She said it sounded like all should be fine, but to monitor myself and contact them if I start feeling worse, bleeding etc. and breathe! Thanks for all your help x

I found the nurses on the labour ward really helpful and supportive - they didn't mind any queries or questions. I hope they put your mind at rest.

Oops, cross post! Glad they were nice and reassuring.
