38 weeks pregnant with dc2 and starting to get constipated. Drink gallons of water already, anyone have any suggestions that can help?

I was told to drink peppermint tea for that
Not sure if it works though

FRUIT AND VEG. Lots of it! Smile. Hope it improves soon.

Oh and maybe have more muesli and granola rather than toast or sugary cereals for breakfast.

Syrup of Figs sorted me out and doesn't taste too bad.

Meringue33 · 04/08/2013 04:09

Lactulose. Nice and gentle

homebyninethirty · 04/08/2013 04:51

Kiwi fruit!

StupidFlanders · 04/08/2013 05:40

Just drink heaps of oj. Body gets rid of extra vit c.

cantreachmytoes · 04/08/2013 07:43

All the above and move as much as possible.

And when it finally comes, try really hard NOT to push it out, just let it do it's thing and it'll come out and you'll avoid extra piles. TMI but hopefully useful!

QuietNinjaTardis · 04/08/2013 07:47

Two words. Prune. Juice. Its like a fucking miracle! It looks gross but doesn't taste too bad. One or two glasses a day. And lots of water as well especially while its so warm. Good luck! I feel your pain.

HahaHarrie · 04/08/2013 08:07

I feel your pain!

Flax seed - get it from health food shops, pour it on your cereal.

Bran
Exercise - walking, swimming.

Water
Fruit, but not bananas.
Help from the pharmacy.
Pelvic floor exercises - to strengthen the muscles in that area.

Try not to strain - or you might damage your bowels like I did. Rectal prolapse Sad. And piles. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

misskatamari · 04/08/2013 09:57

Prune juice - I dilute with a bit of water as its so bloody thick and make sure it's cold from the fridge. Also senokat (sp?) is great for when it's really bad - you just take two at night and then go in the morning.

Make sure to eat lots of foods that will help too - bran flakes, activia yoghurts, fruit and veg, dried figs/prunes/apricots etc.

Good luck

Thank you everyone - I eat a banana a day, shall I cut that down then? Off to buy some prune juice and dried apricot.

Pears and prunes (in juice). Lots of fruit but not bananas and avoid eggs, loads of water too!

SarahJinx · 04/08/2013 22:15

Try some warm, sugared water.

MotherOfNations · 04/08/2013 22:34

I had really bad constipation earlier on in my pregnancy and tried all the natural remedies before trying Lactulose. It worked within a couple of hours though it did give me really bad stomach cramps.

FraggleRock77 · 04/08/2013 23:24

A glass of orange juice morning and night works for me xx
