Just wanted to share this story as it made me tear up! Hormones, anyone?!

21w pregnant and finally starting to show (as in I finally have a bump to match the ever growing bottom). Every morning in term time I see a group of kids walking to the local primary school, led by a young girl. This morning she came up to me on my way to the shop and asked "What you having then?". I was v confused, and asked what she meant, to which she said "The baby. What you having?".

I burst out laughing and started chatting (to a 10yr old!) about baby keeping its legs crossed in the scan, among other things. She was so wise, much wiser than me, and it was bizarre as its the first time I've really chatted about it to anyone other than DP. I did ask how she knew, and she explained she'd guessed a month ago and had bee looking out at my tummy to confirm it.. She then said congratulations and skipped off. I don't know what made me smile more, my first 'stranger' congratulations or her general wise old lady attitude. Certainly made me think that maybe kids aren't that bad after all. What is the minimum age limit for a babysitter again?!

Silly phone, wanted to add on - does anyone else have any lovely pregnancy stories/comments from strangers? I'd only heard negative ones so far, not looking forwarded to the dreaded bump grope or unwanted horror stories right before the birth!

No 'nice' comments for me yet. 22+5 with obvious bump! only nice thing ive had is off a cashier in tesco who.said 'looks like you're coping well with this heat you look lovely!' I dunno whether she was just being polite but it made me smile! :) theres probablly been a couple more that will pop back into my head soon but thats all i can think of for now!

I had a lovely pair of boys aged 7 and 9 ask me all sorts of questions at the bus stop the other day; "are you pregnant?" "What are you having?" "What name will you call him?" "What surname will he have?" "Are you and the dad getting married?" They then listed every name they could think of as suggestions including every name of the Everton line up. I was in hysterics, if an adult had been like that I'd have been terrified but these kids were just charming!!

I'm 31 weeks now and strangers are only just starting to comment, I think people are generally worried about getting it wrong!! But I've only had nice comments!

Boarding a plane at 11 weeks I had a security guard smile and say "there's nothing more beautiful than the sharp of a pregnant woman's body", which was sweet as it's at that time when you start coming to terms with a changing body shape. Loved your story :)

Aack, 21 weeks, not 11 Grin

I'm a teacher in Year 6 and my class are so lovely about my pregnancy. They take such an interest and ask lovely questions. I told them when I was 17 weeks as I could hear them talking about me either being fat or pregnant. I think they don't know what's inappropriate to say to a pregnant woman so their comments are honest and open and lots of fun. Much prefer talking to them than my colleagues in the staff room!

I teach in a secondary school and some of the kids' reaction to my pregnancy has bought a tear to my eye. The sheer joy in one year 8 boy's eyes when he asked "are you pregnant?" and I said "yes". One year 7 group gave me a round of applause!

ditto ahoy ahoy - i'm also a secondary teacher and have been touched by how kids respond to the news. they are fascinated! one of the toughest year 9 boys stayed back at the end of the lesson to ask me 'can you feel the baby inside you miss?'
