Waxing when pregnant...

So, I have horrid memories of going for a bikini wax close to delivery time as wanted to be all neat and tidy. It was horrific - hair didnt want to come out - guess because my whole body was geared up for growth...

Pregnant again. Went for a wax couple of weeks ago for my sun holiday. One side was fine. The other side bruised badly. Now the re-growth is really irritating...

Do folks just let it all go when they are pregnant? Have you found alternative methods that work well? I will struggle to be 'untamed' for the next 6 months or so :-( !!

I am still waxing but I have always waxed so they are pretty fine. I never leave it longer than three weeks so get it done when they are still quite fine and short. The lady that waxes me has started using thinner strips to stop any irritation. Take a bit longer but worth it...

I'm just back from having Brazilian done this eve- always much more sensitive when pregnant. But no bruising... Do you use hot wax? Maybe talk to your therapist (right word?) about different methods that might work for you.

I don't bother! I'm guessing the midwives/medical professionals won't care and I couldn't give a crap if they did tbh.

Go natural for a while - maybe it won't be as much of a struggle as you think...

Yeah, same here, I had a really bad reaction to waxing when pg with DS, so I reckon I will leave it all alone this time. You get used to it...

Alternatively, maybe having it done more frequently might help avoid the bad reaction?

RubyGoat · 01/08/2013 22:56

I didn't bother TBH. Towards my due date I was so massive I couldn't have reached to shave, even if I'd wanted to. Waxing was right out! My skin got so horrendously sensitive as well, that any interference tended to cause a rash. I figured a bit of hair was less ugly than a load of infected sore bits on my bikini area.

MummyJetsetter · 01/08/2013 23:00

It always hurts when I wax and my hair grows so fast it's back within a couple of weeks so not worth it so I always use feet hair removal cream, you can do it in the mirror so not like you have to bend funny to do it. x

Oh dear. I'm 38 weeks, with coarse dark hair, and booking my first ever wax tomorrow. Can you really get infected sore bits?! Shock

5madthings · 02/08/2013 00:00

I have never waxed just keep it all trimmed really short and dp trimmed it for me when preg, he always trims it actually.

Teaandflapjacks · 02/08/2013 09:54

I went at 30 weeks (i think) and it was awful - was very course and i kept bleeding. The waxist says she sees it all the time with pg women. TBH I haven't bothered since - now 38 weeks. I attempted to 'tidy' a week ago with a razor - terrible idea - got 4 ingrown hairs and very itchy. Thing is in the heat I prefer less hair. Oh well.

*ByTheWishingWell' - not to panic you but I was advised not to get waxed too late into pg as you can get infections - I would check but you may be on the cusp.

I have waxed myself for over 15 years, but last weekend was definitely the last time for this pg (29 weeks) - the hairs are tougher, they've spread to new places, and I couldn't contort myself into the necessary positions! It was rather traumatic and time consuming, although I haven't had any of the issues with bruising/ingrown hairs (which are worse when pg because of the extra blood flow to the area, I believe).

I do think people are generally advised against waxing late in pregnancy? I am probably going to just stick with using the trimmers to keep it all short (no hair creams or shaving, don't like either) from now on.

ByTheWishingWell · 02/08/2013 13:22

Ah, maybe this wouldn't be a great time to get my first wax then!

Is it ok to use hair removal creams in pregnancy? Shaving isn't an option as I can't see what I'm doing anymore, but I had thought that you couldn't use creams when pregnant. (Which may be something I have invented for another thing to be paranoid about Blush)

fluffandnonsense · 02/08/2013 13:35

Beard trimmers. That's all I'm sayin' Grin

Razzdazz · 02/08/2013 14:23

Lol, I used cream last night and as I can no longer see what I am doing (even in the mirror Blush) I just slapped it on and hoped for the best!! I have no hair left now lol, it was easier to let it all come off Grin

bubbatime · 02/08/2013 18:16

Hmm , I might try cream then....

I just trim... but then mine can all be hidden inside a relatively modest swimsuit if it's short... lucky i guess.
