placenta previa while on blood thinners

I am 28 weeks into my third pregnancy. I had a clot a few months after first baby was born, put on enoxaparin throughout second pregnancy and am on it again this time.
I had a small bleed at 20 weeks into this pregnancy and scan showed marginal placenta previa? (within 2cm of os)
Waiting for follow up scan at 34 weeks.
Has anyone else had this and been on blood thinner s and what happened in the end?
I am worried about a) high risk of bleeding and b) hVing to have a c section with a 4yr old, 2yr old and a newborn! (and a demanding husband!)
I know many previas move up but am stl panicking!

Hello, I am now on my second pregnancy with placenta previa and blood thinners (aspirin and due to recurrent miscarriage). Last time my placenta did not move so I stopped the injections at 34 weeks and had my DS at 35 weeks by EMCS following a large bleed. I had a large PPH but recovery was very straightforward and I felt fine after a few days - just took it easy with lifting.

This pregnancy, I have a complete previa again. I had a bleed at 24 weeks and was in hospital for monitoring for six days. The drs told me that if they had to carry out an EMCS within 12 hours of the blood thinning injection that this would have to be under general anaesthetic due to the risk of a blood clot in the spine. Otherwise, they could proceed as normal.

I'm 27 weeks now and waiting for my scan at 32 weeks to see if my placenta has moved (not expecting it to though!). I think partial previas are more likely to move so fingers crossed that yours will.

Thanks deewee. I do hope yours turns out fine too. How do you feel about having another c section?
Everyone seems to have stories of being immobile for weeks and the long recovery time.
Do you feel you bled more because of being on blood thinners or not really?
Was your last one a complete previa also?
Ty ;-)

I had partial previa with my 3rd pregnancy last year and was hospitalised for 11 weeks after having 3 quite big bleeds at home. It does usually move so hopefully yours will behave, but sometimes its good to be prepared (if not emotionally, then practically) in terms of arranging care for the other children. Hope it all works out well for you.

Ty pining. I would go insane if that happened to me. If I have had one small bleed am I more likely to have another?
Sorry for all the questions.
I am now thinking maybe I should think about actually buying some stuff for the baby :O

I'm not sure. I know with my first two pregnancies i didnt have any bleeding at all. With the 3rd i had a tiny bleed at about 12 weeks. It was so insignificant i didn't even mention it to my mw. Not sure if that was a little warning or not. There were 3 other pp ladies in hospital with me. 2 said they did have a light bleed early on, one had no bleeds at all but was still a long stay patient. The c section side of things wasn't as bad as i expected it to be although patience is key to your recovery. You will need help, especially with other dc to care for.

Also, long hospital stays depend on the distance between home and hospital. My fastest ambulance time to my nearest hospital was 40 minutes so not considered safe. If you have a maternity unit close to you, it could mean no long stay at all :)

Oh ok. We are in London within about 10 mins in good traffic so that's good news :-)

That will definitely go in your favour i would think.

Hi OP, I'm fine with having another c-section. I would rather it wasn't under GA so I don't miss the first cries etc but I can live with that. Honestly, I found the recovery last time pretty easy - I was walking, climbing stairs and cleaned my flat from top to bottom after three days! However, I'm going to get some help in place after DH returns to work in case it's not so easy this time with a toddler and a newborn to look after! And yep, a complete previa last time too!

The blood thinners made no difference to the bleeding this time or last time, I guess the only difference is what kind of anaesthetic they use. I did lose a lot of blood during the op last time but this was due to the placenta being so low, as the uterus can't contract as effectively. I didn't need a transfusion but took iron tablets for a few months.

I second what pining says about hospital stays. I was close to the hospital last time so wasn't admitted for monitoring. I live further out this time so will have to go in at 36 weeks uni happens before then

Dirtywee that's very encouraging thanks. Not really bothered how I give birth (just get it out kind of person) but I was worried about not being able to do stuff after. I m sure it Will all work out fine. Ty and all the best with both of yours. :-)
