Polyhydramnios but bump normal size?

I'm 29+3 and had a growth scan today.
Baby's growth is fine but amniotic fluid has increased to mild polyhydramnios levels (AFI 22, deepest pool 8cm). I had a midwife appointment afterwards and my fundal height is spot on 29 weeks - where is all this fluid then?!
Mw didn't seem too worried and I have an extra consultant appointment at 32 weeks and then my next scheduled growth scan/consultant appointment at 34 weeks. Do I need to worry? Should I rest :o

No advice, sorry but didn't want to read and run. I am the complete opposite. I am only 22 weeks and T1 has Oligohydramnios which has been up and down since 9 weeks and I have a "normal" size twin bump. I was told loads of things that went over my head. I know people say don't google but I found reading facts and causes helped put me at ease.

If your Mw isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry but I'd ask her to explain fully at your next appointment.

All the best x

I had this with ds1. I was also very very big. I spent a lot of time googling the condition and worrying. But the birth was absolutely fine as is ds. So try not to worry and don't research it on the Internet!

Just coming back to this thread as I started it and then went on holiday Blush
Thank you both for replying.

Having read a bit about this and others' experiences I'm suspicious that I may have had it (undiagnosed) also with DS. My waters broke after a sweep at 38 weeks and gushed and gushed and gushed. I was then induced and after a full labour and prolonged 2nd stage he never engaged or moved down and I had an emcs where I lost lots of blood and needed a transfusion.

Anyway, I have a consultant appointment this Thursday so I'll see what they say then :)

I had polyhydramnios in my second pregnancy. My DC1 was also born via caesarean section, so when the polyhydramnios was picked up on a scan at 36 weeks the consultant really wanted to avoid me trying for VBAC because of the weight of the extra fluid possibly putting too much strain on the existing scar. Just something to consider mentioning at your appointment if you were wanting a VBAC this time

Hi. I had polyhydramnios with my 3rd DC. It wasn't diagnosed until I was being induced at 37wks for cholestasis my labour was managed. Had a number of consultants positioning, scanning, monitoring hb and breaking my water, to insure that ds stayed engaged kept bouncing back up and the cord didn't come out first. From what I understood, once ds was engaged the waters being broken would "hold" him in the engaged position for birth which it did.

I measured spot on for my dates until 30wks where I started to measure big.
There is a risk of early labour with polyhydramnios, and also false starts as babe engages and pops back up.

I also had it undiagnosed until after birth with dc2, but other than extra scans because I never measured correctly for weeks. It was a normal pregnancy and labour. And only a week early.

Well that's good news, then! I had really wanted an elective anyway but the hospital were reluctant until the polyhdramnios was diagnosed. All went perfectly, but they did put a few sheets down to avoid flooding the operating theatre. Wishing you all the best Smile
