Baby lying Oblique any advice or info

Im 29 weeks apparently baby is lying oblique. What happens now? Do I get an extra scan? All midwife said was that there was time for baby to move, I'm reading different though. It says oblique babies get very comfy and don't tend to move. Anybody else in similar position or has been, what's the outcome been? Thank you.

Mine was like this at 32 weeks. By 34 she was head down. If they really refuse to move then midwife will likely refer you for External Cephalic Version where they try and manually turn the baby and if still no luck then it may mean a caesarian, but your little one still has plenty of time to move. There are various exercises you can try to encourage things. I've seen lots of people recommend a website called Spinning Babies but I didn't really bother (by the time I got round to it baby had moved!) Good luck!

I was told my baby was oblique at my 29 week appointment today. Last week I had a scan and baby was very definitely cephalic then, so I wouldn't worry too much at this stage.

I have weekly appointments and regular scans, so will be interested to see what they say baby is up to next week.

Ok thank you everyone that's good to know. Can I ask another question? when I lie on my left, baby gets very active his head is down left. So could that be uncomfortable for baby?

My baby has been swapping between transverse and oblique this whole pregnancy - and still doing so at 35+4.

I'm having a scan on Friday to see how baby is lying and if he is still not in position by the following week I'll be offered an EVC. If that doesn't work it will be an ELCS delivery.

I'm trying the spinning babies thing but I'm nervous of that as sometimes it's hard to tell how he's lying and I wouldn't want to undo any of his own good work!

Like others have said though you still have plenty of time, just wanted to give you an idea of what will happen if he doesn't turn.

Good luck!

I kept getting told baby has plenty of time to turn but im 36 weeks now and i don't think he will budge. I know he has been in the same position since 20 odd weeks (breech) and seems comfy there. If he hasn't moved by Monday i have to see the consultant who will try and convince me to have ECV (which im not doing) and otherwise it will have to be a c-section.

I would advise you to read up on ECV and just have a think about whether you would have it done and also read up on c sections just incase.

P.s. Time on your hands and knees is supposed to help baby turn. Rocking back and forth. Scrubbing floors etc.

Hi there,

Don't worry yet... I'm 37 weeks now and at 35 my baby was oblique, and then transverse, I convinced myself she wasn't going to turn, I read up on everything and was convinced I was having a c section. I thought I could feel her head on my right hand side too, but then the midwife came last week and she was head down, a lot of people say you can feel them move down, but I never did.

So ever since then I've been on the gym ball trying to get her head engaged :)

Normally they book you in for a scan at 36 weeks plus to see if the baby has moved, if not then ecv but that's your choice.

Wait and see though, the baby may surprise you and move :)

Good luck.x
