I'm 29+2 today and it's the first day where I've felt completely out of it. I'm not tired it's just that my head is in an absolute muddle. I can't concentrate on work and I've basically written today off already!

I've got my to do list but I keep starting something then my brain switches off again! I could easily just sit here for the next 5 hours not completing a thing!

Anyone else out there experiencing this and any tips to overcome this mushed up baby brain?!

Thank goodness you posted seriousstuff, I feel better knowing it's not just me!! I am 34 weeks and have not achieved a single thing this morning except post on MN and browse gumtree for 2nd hand baby bargains!! I cannot get my brain into gear at all. I gave up and went for a coffee an hour ago, came back to my desk and am still here on MN!! What's wrong with my brain?! Even with a deadline looming, all I want to do is think about my baby. 3 weeks until mat leave... How long have you got left ss? I'd also love to hear any tips... please help!! :)

I am 34+5 and exactly the same today, what isn't helping is this is my last week at work, so all am doing is basically clearing my desk, and putting things off for someone else to do. Smile

Hi SeriousStuff i'm the same and have been for a week or so. I'm 29+4 and am really starting to find it hard to concentrate. I work at home one or two days a week and they are particularly hard, so many distractions.

Rollermum · 29/07/2013 13:47

Me too! Am 34 + 3 and mentally left the building some weeks ago tbh. I have bursts of productivity but then other times where I could stare out the window happily all day. I've found I need a list of a mx of 5 things to do that day and stick to it. No more capacity for random tasks!

Also keeping your boss informed of workload as maternity leave gets nearer has been useful for me - especially as I am in a new role (in an old job) and my boss is new.

Argh 6.5 days left in the office and lots to do! But I guess unlike going on leave this is final - I have to hand it over at a certain point.

SeriousStuff · 29/07/2013 13:57

Unfortunately, as I work for myself and we need the money, I'm not planning on taking any leave before the baby comes. And whilst I'm petrified about saving enough to make sure I can take some stress-free time off with the baby, it's not enough of an incentive at the moment!

roller I agree - I have some bursts now and then but today as been one long morning of white noise in my head!

The last few weeks before leave I'd completely checked out. I think it was part baby brain part the circumstance of work and handing things over too early so I had nothing meaningful left to do.
To do lists with properties got me through.

Not just you. Both pregnancies I've got into the third trimester and - bam! - brain turns to cotton wool and I have the concentration of a gnat.

Last time I didn't really overcome it unless I had an incredibly pressing deadline and there was no room to procrastinate. Otherwise I'd just faff and faff until I'd get myself into a panic because I was falling behind.

Now it's happening again I think it's a stage of pregnancy, not just me being too wrapped up in my own concerns and distracted by Mumsnet to get things done!

Kelly1814 · 29/07/2013 18:33

I feel the same! Sadly have not been able to take foot off the work gas at all. My levels of interest in work have plummeted but have to keep going. In the country I live you continue right up to your due date as maternity leave is so rubbish. Zero interest!

Rollermum · 30/07/2013 10:55

Urgh today is even worse so I'm ducking in here to say 'bleurghhhhh'. I had about 5.5 hours sleep, but with 4 loo visits and a 3.5 hour commute to work. I am proof-reading a report which is not a good plan but it is over deadline.

LePamplemousse - I know I am losing it when even a tight deadline is not helping!

Kelly1814 - wow that sounds tough and makes me think I should stop whinging. I have 6 days left after all.

Oh thank goodness, you ladies too! I'm 33+3 and I've just had my first experience of this at work. My mind went completely blank when talking to a senior colleague. How embarassing! I could blame being jittery due to the news that the first of my NCT buddies has just given birth, but actually my dh has witnessed many a moment over the last half of my pregnancy. Luckily for me, he finds it cute Hmm

SeriousStuff · 30/07/2013 12:46

I keep forgetting the English words for things! It's my second language (but completely fluent as I learnt it from the age of 5) and you could never usually tell, but now it keeps dropping out of my head at the most awkward of times!

I'm 37+3 and it's probably been about 6 weeks since i've been firing properly on all cylinders... luckily my boss is very understanding and hasn't said too much about how suddenly everything is taking 2-3 times longer to do!

Yonionekanobe · 30/07/2013 13:19

I'm like that today and only 18 weeks. I'm normally quite focused and have a fairly stressful job so need to keep motivated but just keep staring at the screen of my laptop today. Exhausted! And just when I was finally getting over sickness.
