I am a first-timer, 10 weeks 5 days. Through the post last week I received an NHS letter asking me to come in this Saturday for an ante-natal appointment with a midwife where I will have blood tests and I presumed a scan. I will be 11 weeks 3. I just received another letter today asking me in for a scan next Thursday whenninwill be 12 weeks 1. Is it normal to have 2 separate appointments? I'm really disappointed as wanted to have my scan ASAP. Please let me know your experiences :) Thank you! X

The midwife won't scan you - she'll probably just take bloods and a medical history from you and your partner. I guess the 2nd one will be your scan :-)

Yes agree, first appointment likely your booking in appointment with midwife, you will get your maternity notes, questions from midwife, bloods etc. 2nd will likely be your 12 week scan appointment. Not too long to wait although I know how impatient I felt at that time!

Thank you for your quick replies! Sorry to sound totally ignorant but what is the booking appointment? I've had no appointments other than the one when I told my GP I was pregnant... X

islingtongirl you have just answered my question for me about the booking appointment. Thank you :) I'm feeling horribly impatient!! My hopes were raised for this Saturday. X

Just as explained above - a long (boring) appointment where you meet midwife, chat, give a medical history, get bloods, weight etc done.

They also ask if you smoke and check (even when you bloody say no) with a blow machine where i live.

The booking app is a bit tedious but it might make it feel more 'real' and tide you over before the scan. Me and DH only started to feel like it was real and had the 'oh shit, what have we done... ' giggle on the way out after the booking appointment!

Thank you all so much for your comments. And fuckwittery thank you for your link. It's good to see appointment schedule like that in black and white- my GP told me very little really!

I was felt just as impatient for scan, so I asked my mw to try to listen for the heartbeat for a bit of reassurance! She was happy to do it, as long as I promised not to panic if she couldn't pick it up at that early stage!

When I first went to the GP, I was given my first bounty pack with an appointment schedule in it as well.

It is a minefeild (I am wk13 DC1) oh and do not worry but your dates will be changed at the scan!!!!!!
