My newborn will be 3 weeks old at a garden party with 28 people. Im worried about exposing him to so many people without his jabs.... am i being paranoid???

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
OddFrog · 28/07/2013 21:40

Don't worry about it. Have a lovely time. (Try to rest and relax when baby is being held by one of the other guests!)

SkinnyDecaffGiraffe · 28/07/2013 21:44

Use a sling if your concerned. Ten at least people can get too close or pick him up without permission

DaveMccave · 29/07/2013 01:24

He will still have your immunity from in utero even if you are not breastfeeding. don't panic!

Rhianna1980 · 29/07/2013 01:46

You are not paranoid. I personally wouldn't take him especially after finding out 2 of our friends have been around my friend's new born whilst being ill . On one occasion he had chest infection yet mixing with us -me pregnant and my friend's new born, second time they both have just found out they had whopping cough yet they carried on their lives as normal meeting up with everybody . One can spread their bugs before symptoms show, and some ppl don't care about spreading their germs . Wait till your baby has had its vaccines .

Make sure they all wash and sanitize their hands and anyone with cold etc not to get too close. If you're that worried like a poster said, wear a sling. Plus if you're BF that helps too.

By the time she was three weeks, we'd been to two weddings with our girl. She's absolutely fine. It's good for them to start building their immune system. Enjoy it!

Try not to worry but the precautions above sound sensible to me, and remember no one HAS to hold the baby, you have a right to tell everyone to keep their distance. Feeling slightly guilty looking at ds, I was so tired the first few months I honestly didn't even think to worry about this sort of thing, luckily he made it out alive!

My DD got RSV bronchiolitis at 5 weeks of age from a kid who was very snotty but otherwise well.

She went into respiratory failure and ended up in ICU and HDU for 5 weeks. Far more common than you'd think - the paed ICU beds were full in all the surrounding hospitals so she ended up in an adult ICU.

Not fun. Iiwm I'd pass.

MrRected · 29/07/2013 05:02

The beds were full of RSV +ive babies.
