Raised blood pressure but no protein?

Anyone experienced this? Am 35 weeks pregnant, BP has averaged 90/60 since my booking appointment, is now up around 138/75. It goes back down a bit when I lie down for a while, but goes up again when I move around. Urine had a trace of protein on Thursday, but tested twice again since then and was negative both times. Have had swollen hands and feet since about 28 weeks, hands seem to be getting a bit worse recently, but bit better today since the weather has cooled down a bit. Am being monitored every few days at the minute. Just wondering if anyone else has had this sort of thing and if so what happened...?

I experienced this in last week of pregnancy. My waters broke spontaneously at 37+2 and gave birth 12 hours later. I was diagnosed with pregnancy induced hypertension instead of pre -eclampsia. I was on blood pressure meds for about 6 weeks post partum. Blood pressure returned to normal at that stage (usually low). Swelling was a pain and unfortunately got worse after birth as opposed to better and had to spend a couple of weeks with my feet elevated Hmm. Best of luck. I'm sure if they get concerned about your bp they'll either up your meds, or induce you.

Thanks flyingwidow. Urgh, am already bored of having my feet up! And the swelling has been the most annoying side effect so far, can't even bend my fingers in the mornings, am really hoping that goes after the birth Sad Not on any meds yet, hoping to avoid them, but will see how it goes I guess.

I was very excited when I was able to put my rings back on! Apparently PIH is more common in first pregnancies and if you are short in height! I ticked both those boxes!!

I know, I miss my wedding ring! Have been wearing it on a chain round my neck but it's uncomfortable and I worry about losing it...Also looking forward to getting back into my regular shoes, have only found one pair that will fit my fat feet in Hmm Well it is my first, but don't think I'm particularly short (5'6"), despite what my lanky DH says! Smile

Poor thing. It's really sore when you're all swollen. I found putting cold flannels on my feet a real relief. After birth my feet felt so tight- like they would burst. Hmm Have they advised you of a course of action? I hated not knowing things when I was close to birth, and insisted that they told me what would happen next! (They thought I was a pain!!!)

Yes, I had gestational hypertension. Diagnosed at 40 weeks and gave birth naturally at 40+3 so didn't have to deal with it for very long.

Are they medicating you? Your BP reading is still at the upper end of normal albeit it's raised against your booking in measurement so I'd try not to over worry at this point.

LadySnapcase · 28/07/2013 15:48

Not really, think they're waiting to see if it stabilises or keeps going up Hmm. Not quite at the threshold for hypertension and without the protein they seem to just be monitoring it. They've explained what will happen if the protein appears, but mostly it seems they are playing it by ear!

Yeah, have been sat with my feet in a bowl of cold water and keep running my hands under the cold taps. Have had some itching too so been checked out for cholestasis, but touch wood those bloods have been normal so far! Seems like I've had it easy till now and everything just seems to be going a bit wrong in the last week or so Confused Just been discharged from consultant care too (BMI was low when I conceived so been having growth scans) as everything was fine with the baby...

I prefer to think of it as being engaged with the care process rather than being a pain Wink

Pasta no medication yet. I'm not massively worried, mostly because I don't feel ill but I know that doesn't really mean anything...!

hi
your blood pressure is raised but not high. the bottom number is the one they look out for mainly I think . mine hit over 100 with my first and I got pre eclampsia, and with my second the bottom number hit 90 and I was told I had PIH and was induced after the meds failed to lower it.
its good that they are monitoring you and if they are worried they would induce you so try not to worry too much.
