At my 34 weeks mw appointment my bump was only measuring 32 and now I'm worried. MW said they will remeasure at next appointment b4 they send for a scan.

I am a constant worrier and now am eating loads to try and make baby grow.

Anyone had similar experience plz.

Hi
I know how you feel I have measured small in all of my 4 pregnancies and always had to have growth scans, 3 of my babies have been a good size so it could be nothing, try not to worry.

This pregnancy I'm measuring 6weeks behind but so far my scans have been fine I have another tomorrow and hoping that again its nothing.

The problem is all midwifes measure differently and if your a small person your not going to have huge babies.

Try not to worry 2 weeks is not a lot of difference and bump measuring isn't very accurate.

last midwife visit I measured 2 weeks behind. had a growth scan on friday and baby is above 50th percentile! try not to worry - the measuring is not very accurate!

Got to agree with the others, I'm measuring behind (3 to 4 wks), but the MW remeasures on each viist and always ends up with a diff number - it really isn't that accurate and some women just don't get that much of a bump.

Assuming you haven't been dieting, I wouldn't go crazy trying to eat more.

Thanks for replies. Feel better now knowing its quite normal and not very accurate.

It's not accurate, wait for your scan and don't over eat, the baby will take what it takes and won't take extra because you over eat (as long as you aren't diabetic).

Teaandflapjacks · 28/07/2013 18:01

is this purely a bump measurement, not a scan? if so some health authorities have stopped this practice entirely and in Germany (where I live) it went out with the ark since is completely unreliable - could be anything that affects your bump size - water/height/stomach muscles before/first child and so on and so on..... Honestly - don't worry, it really is a daft thing to still be doing (sure it's based on cost TBH).

Teaandflapjacks · 28/07/2013 18:04

and see here - there is HEAPS of research on this if you google (not that this is always the best option, but in this instance I think it is ok)

www.baby2see.com/medical/fundal_height.html

Fundal height is a measurement used to estimate the gestational age of a fetus/baby. Fundal height is not considered to be a very accurate measurement to determine baby's weight. Ultrasound is far more accurate but still has a margin for error.

Just thought I'd come back and say that I am still measuring 6 weeks behind but my scan was fine and baby is growing nicely so the size of my bump means nothing.

lljkk · 29/07/2013 18:48

meh, I'm another one. Got sent for extra special scan and all. Luckily it was my 4th pg so by then I knew to have little faith in scans and was never the least bit worried. Baby was born the biggest of my lot, of course (nearly 9lbs).

Newmum0113 · 29/07/2013 19:01

OP at my last appt my bump was measured at 1 week behind and today (3 weeks later) I measured at 10 days over. I have not gained any weight in this time at all and also felt she was measuring me differently to the last midwife so agree with others - it's not very accurate and is just a guideline.

ruledby glad to hear all is well for you, thanks for coming back to say so! Smile

I'm 34 weeks, and measuring about 28, my baby is transverse which is why but babys position at time of measuring with affect the measurement :) try not to worry, babys sizes vary :)
