I'm currently only 6weeks preggers with baby number 3 and the sickness now seems to be there all the time.
I feel nauseous and dizzy, don't vomit.
I seem to really crave some foods, but then can't eat it and the thought of it then revolts me later if I I do eat a bit.
My mouth tastes manky because I am not drinking enough.
I feel miserable.
Any ideas gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Lots of fluids, either drink or have ice pops, dehydration will make you feel sick so it's very important to keep your fluids up.
Eat little and often, even if you only manage a few crisps or a bite of sandwich it's better than nothing.
And rest as much as possible.
Hope you feel better soon.

I had a bloody miserable time of it with my first, and the only thing that really helped was to very very slowly sip a flat sugary drink first thing (orange lucozade was my drink of choice) just to raise my blood sugar and line my stomach a bit.

Anti-emetics from the GP Grin

But if you don't want to do that, don't worry about meals or anything, just try crisps, oatcakes, things you can have a bite or two of and then leave without it going off. I lived for 4 months on Weetabix and toast, it's fine if that's all you can manage. But eating and keeping your blood sugar up will really help to make you feel a little less sick.

The fluids is more of a concern, and if you really aren't managing to keep liquids down then it probably is worth talking to a GP. Try ice lollies or even chewing on ice cubes, whatever you can do. Oh, and Lucozade. At my worst stage, the GP said if even chewing food was making me be sick then to focus on Lucozade and Cuppasoups, which I found were ok.

keep nibbling. Don't let your stomach get too empty. Try and force down some biscuits or something, even if you don't feel like them. You'll feel better afterwards.

God, it's ghastly, isn't it?

There is no magic cure (have 5 DC and have had hyperemisis with them all).

Nibble and sip, little and often. Eat whatever you feel like, even if it's crap. Your baby will be fine.

I hope you feel better soon. Flowers

Eat whatever you think you can tolerate, even if it's completely unhealthy. Not being able to eat is a problem but not as dangerous as not being able to drink.

For fluids try lucozade, coke, fizzy water, ice cubes. If you can't take in (or keep down) enough fluids you will get worse and worse, so check these signs - pinch skin on your hands - does it spring back or is it looking crepey and slowly returning to shape? Are your lips cracked and dry? Blurred vision? Headaches? Confusion? Palpitations or racing heart beat? Any of these are signs you are dehydrated and the later signs are the most worrying (as in get down to A&E). You can even buy something called ketosticks from a pharmacy, you wee on them and they tell you how dehydrated they are so if you get ++ or +++ or ++++ you need to see a doctor.

I've had hyperemesis twice and it's grim. Sometimes it's hard to see where morning sickness starts and hyperemesis starts, and you don't necessarily have to be throwing up to get it, just unable to take in enough fluid. You can try seeing your GP for basic anti-emetics such as cyclizine, which is a first line drug, but there are many other drug options if those don't work.

Don't worry about eating rubbish - I lived off IV fluids and lucozade for about 5 months. Doctors who treat hyperemesis groan a lot about the whole healthy eating thing because, while obviously it's nice, some people just can't do it because they're so ill.

Ohhh, my sympathies. It's horrible, isn't it.

I found that sherbet lemons helped, oddly, and so did salty crisps. And YY to eating whatever you can face and sod the healthy eating. With DS, during the first trimester all I could face was mashed potato, cheese sandwiches and Marmite toast.

Also YY to eating little and often, even if it's only to give you something to be sick with Sad. I found with DD, if I got even a little bit hungry I'd spend 30 mins retching down the cludgie.

TangfasticMrFoxalastic · 27/07/2013 22:50

Cyclazine was the only thing that worked for me, you have my every sympathy

Purplefrogshoe · 27/07/2013 22:57

Ice lollies, boiled sweets, crisps and fizzy water is what I lived on for 15 weeks, I hope it gets easier for you

Frenelder · 28/07/2013 08:39

All of the above plus Sea Bands, they helped me so much. Hope it passes soon for you. I didn't believe people telling me it would get better but after about 11-12 weeks I stopped feeling so crap.

Littlemissexpecting · 28/07/2013 08:43

Cyclizine!
Worth trying anti sickness bands.
Stay clear of crisps and apples (not very pleasant when you are sick)

Chocolateteabag · 28/07/2013 08:49

Maybe no one has mentioned it, but have you tried ginger biscuits Grin

Chocolateteabag · 28/07/2013 08:53

(sorry)

Will answer seriously now - I found all I could manage was Volvic with lemon & lime while feeling sickest. But then I didn't have HG at all just bog standard sick.
