Waters half broke!?

I'm a first time mum to be, very nervous!! My pregnancy has been fine throughout except general problems such as sickness, I had a gush of water a few nights ago which has been confirmed as a 'leak' of amniotic fluid, I'm low on fluid measuring below 5th centile, now they have left it at that, no more scans to check up the level? No checks on the fluid level, which really does worry me? Is this normal at 38 weeks +1!? And all feral movement is now very sharp an painful? Any help or advice on what to do would be great?
Thanks in advance..

I'm suprised theyve left you with leaking waters tbh.. when mine half went (hind waters or something) they wanted me in. I was 41 weeks though.

I'd ring and ask for advice I think.

If in doubt at this late stage of pregnancy phone the labour ward, midwife assessment unit or whatever it is that you have near you. Tell them you are concerned and could you go in to be monitored to put your mind at ease.

Lisamarie123 · 26/07/2013 23:45

I went in today and on the monitors the foetal heart beat kept having decelerations but nobody would explain what this meant to me?? I have asked why they are leaving it as just that because I would atleast expect a further scan in a few days to atleast check the fluid levels again? I tried to speak to a midwife in andu today but nobody would explain :( I see my midwife on Tuesday for a check up think I will just see what happens then..

Did they examine you at all? I'm really suprised they sent you home. Ring the labour ward and see what they say. Have you had any contractions at all?

Lisamarie123 · 26/07/2013 23:49

Yeah they said it was a leak nothing to worry about but how can you not worry when in the scan the baby had only 4.8 cm of amniotic fluid left? :(

I'm not sure but hopefully more people with better knowledge will be along shortly. You could try posting again asking what low amniotic fluid and decelerations mean, in title?

cravingcake · 26/07/2013 23:52

Are you still leaking at all? I would phone them an ask. Tell them you cant sleep because you are worried. It does seem strange to leave you. My waters broke as a slow trickle and induction was started about 40 hours later.

RobotBananas · 26/07/2013 23:54

Actually, scrap that. Please just ring the labour ward and ask. If your waters have actually gone, rather than just a leak (which I think they would be able to tell if they'd examined you) then there is a risk of infection.

I had this happen when I was 25 weeks I got to 32 weeks before giving birth. I had to have weekly scan and 3 times a week swabs, blood tests and a foetal heart reading. I had continuous leaking for the full 7 weeks and I did had have low amniotic fluid amount although I csn't remember the amounts. It mainly restricted his growth but I do have a very lively and perfectly well 5 year old boy now.
I also had the decelerations and somtimes even struggled to get any pick up of hearbeat hende been stuck on the thing for over an hour.
If you have any concerns give the birthing unit a call they should be trying to put your mind at rest.
Good luck

How are you this morning?

lozza22 · 27/07/2013 10:13

peronally i wud not wait and leave this till tuesday. i dont want to add to your worry but i had a friend who had virtually the same thing happen to her at 39 weeks, when she went back after a few days her baby had died.
also i had an experience with my first daughter at term where she had stopped moving so i went up for check and her heartbeat kept decelerating, but despite this the consultant wanted to send me home. luckily i had a very on the ball midwife with me who refused and instead did a sweep, my daughter was born few hours later with cord firmly round her kneck three times, hence why movement had slowed and heart dropping. she is fine now.
like i said im truly not saying this to scare or worry you more but because i would hate to see anything happen.
sometimes you have to be quite forceful or its easy for them to fob you off, pleade let us know how you get on lisamarie

I woke up with the baby sticking out today lol, but tonight I'm having very sharp pains in my thighs, and in my hips, I'm fed up of goin to the hospital and they never seen to give me an answer. I'm so glad I'm hearing other people in the same situation I'm not alone! Thanks for the replies going to ring labour ward and ask them for a check up now as I'm dry worrie about them leaving it and not even giving me another scan.

If you are 38 weeks plus and your waters are confirmed to be broken, you should be offered induction. This is for sure. If there are decelerations on your babies heart monitoring and you are not in labour, your baby needs to be delivered. Are you sure you are understand them right? I think you need to go back to the hospital urgently.

Lovetea · 27/07/2013 20:49

Have you phoned? I would just go down the hospital until you have some answers and your baby.

costlytrinket · 30/07/2013 00:10

my fluid is low too (3rd centile) and im having weekly scans and chats with the consultant. now 36 weeks and hoping to get to 37 before i'm induced!
hope you went to the hospital today ?

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 30/07/2013 03:38

I didn't have decelerations but did have low fluid discovered at 36+5 and was going to be induced at 38 weeks but went back at 37+1 for another scan and it had gone lower and the cord blood flow was intermittent so I was induced straight away. I would definitely check and would go get checked again if poss.
