Sorry for sharing this wonderful problem but is there anything I can take to relieve this?? I'm on antibiotics so have really increased my water intake and also taking lots of orange juice and prune juice but no joy. Starting to get painful now! :(

Lactulose

I was v badly constipated for 2 or 3 weeks in my first trimester in both pg, but it did get moving in th end. Lactulose keeps things soft for when they do get going.

JugglingChaotically · 26/07/2013 21:56

Dried apple rings and lots of water?!

Christelle2207 · 26/07/2013 21:58

Another vote for lactulose. Worked a treat for me!

devonsmummy · 26/07/2013 21:59

Linseed - sprinkle it on cereal, in salads , mixed in just about any food.
They're only the size of sesame seeds so not really noticeable.
Cured me of my problem within 24/36 hours!

yummymumtobe · 26/07/2013 22:01

Cereal and lots of walking.

Evi1984 · 26/07/2013 22:18

Thank you all, will go shopping tomorrow and see what works for me. Before I was pregnant prune juice always worked but it's not doing the job right now.

Allbran for breakfast every morning. Also I second Lactose.

Emilily · 26/07/2013 23:26

Pineapple worked incredibly well for me, maybe try that or other citrus fruits?

sonlypuppyfat · 26/07/2013 23:30

In aldi they do a mini shredded wheat with apricots in they work you brilliant and also tinned grapefruit they will give you a really good scouring

devonsmummy · 26/07/2013 23:39

Just remembered another ... Peanuts.
Works every time

sonlypuppyfat · 26/07/2013 23:40

I made some peanut treats for the kids was lovely watching star bars bobbing up and down in the loo

PetiteMum · 26/07/2013 23:42

Dried figs! I eat a couple a day and have been clear ever since......

JBrd · 27/07/2013 09:02

Linseeds work a treat - a spoonful or two per day in your cereal or over a salad. Lots of water and exercise

lilstar · 27/07/2013 09:30

They have little punnets of cherries for £ 1 in tesco these days. When ever ive had a problem eating a packet of those seem to do the trick for me.

AmIGoingMad · 27/07/2013 09:37

Bran flakes for breakfast with orange juice.

Benefiber to mix into orange juice ( from boots- it says to check with gp if pregnant which I did and was told it was fine).

And lactulose.

I hope it gets better for you soon-its miserable isn't it!

PinkApple86 · 27/07/2013 10:19

make some flap jacks with chopped up prunes in. eat a couple a day. works for me.

believe · 27/07/2013 13:28

Try Golden Linseed from Holland and Barratt or Sainsbury. It lines the gut with oil, gives fibre, no cramps and works within a day. Take 1 tablespoon with 200 ml water or put it in cereal or soup. Do it daily. Its gentle, baby friendly and no complications.

fluffyraggies · 27/07/2013 15:17

Syrup of figs.

Try one teaspoon at first, at bedtime and see what happens.

If nothing much happens try two teaspoons at bedtime.

I guarantee movement (relief) about 12 hours later :)

fluffyraggies · 27/07/2013 15:18

From Boots, by the way.

bingeddybongo · 27/07/2013 16:02

The only way I'm keeping things vaguely in order at the moment is Fybogel twice a day, 2 magnesium tablets at night (as recommended by my doctor) and a handful of dried figs sigh

Evi1984 · 27/07/2013 21:56

Thank you all, feel that little bit better that others are sharing this pain. Stocked up today with more fruits and linseed. Things are in motion already so will keep this up. :)
