Just that. Excruciating wind pains.
Tried windeze tablets the last few days but don't seem to be helping.
I'm 12 weeks.
Thanks!

No practical advice, sorry, hopefully someone else will have, but if you get shooting pains in your arm/shoulder you aren't having a heart attack, it's referred pain from the wind - I learnt that one after a CS and telling the nurses I thought I was having one! Grin

Not pregnant but do suffer from bad wind and bloating(lactose intolerance and IBS),I take peppermint capsules which do work.

LittlePeaPod · 26/07/2013 18:18

I suffered/suffer really badly with bloating and wind (16+1 now). It was so uncomfortable. I found a natural remedy that actually works. I found it by accident whilst trying to find a remedy for sickness (suffering from HG). When I get bloated I have Belviare Lime & Lemongrass cordial with two/three inches of thinly sliced fresh ginger in a cup of hot water. Within half an hour the gass starts going. Unfortunately you either burp it out or fart it out. But it really works for me and it tastes really nice...

LittlePeaPod · 26/07/2013 18:28

Doh. I am 17+1 not 16+1.... Hmm

mrsvilliers · 26/07/2013 21:22

I'm having the same this pregnancy, have replaced bread and pasta with rice and potatoes. seems to be helping me, hard work but better than the alternative!

gubbinsy · 29/07/2013 08:20

I had IBS before I was pregnant and checked with GP and you can't take them while pregnant. Not sure about windeze either. Only thing I found that was 'safe' was Rennie Deflatine which did seem to work pretty well for trapped wind.

Sounds daft but have you tried bending down and touching your toes (somewhere private!) and also, if you get on all fours then put your forehead down to your hands so your bum is in the air (very elegant) you can often feel it all shift about. DH thinks it's hilarious but does give some release (noisily most of the time!)

I've just bought some Lepicol, which is safe to take in pregnancy. It's a probiotic and fibre to help digestion - I have exactly the same problems as you! You can take the powders or capsules, they sell them in Boots and health food shops. Only been taking them a couple of days, but it seems to help. I've also stopped my massive bread intake - just hit 12 weeks and the carb cravings have eased overnight!

FobblyWoof · 29/07/2013 09:03

I found going on all fours and rocking back and forth helped get things moving- though not entirely advisable at the office Grin

Uh oh - have been taking Windeze everytime I eat. Seems to have been helping. I hope its ok - it says on the packet ok to take in pregnancy?

littlepeapod I'd love to try your drink - did you really mean 2/3 inches of ginger?

LittlePeaPod · 29/07/2013 16:41

212VIP Sorry I meant 2/3cm by 2cm (sliced thinly). ha ha ha It's lovely and it works for me.

LittlePeaPod · 29/07/2013 16:43

Lime and ginger is a natural remedy for wind/gass... But having the lime/lemongrass cordial instead of real limes makes it taste so nice and so easy to drink.. Grin

Guntie · 29/07/2013 16:49

3 drops of peppermint oil in a cup of peppermint tea. Please try it. I couldn't believe how well it works.

LittlePeaPod · 29/07/2013 20:35

I love peppermint tea, but I thought we were supposed to avoid it as it can cause heartburn? I know its brilliant for settling your tummy. Have you suffered any heartburn Guntie? I will try it if not just been worried about getting heartburn.

212VIP · 30/07/2013 08:07

Will do! Where do I get peppermint oil?

Avoid the bread and pasta as Mrsvilliers suggests. I've had really bloatedness and trapped wind for the whole of my pregnancy so far (19+3 now) and I've found the best way is avoid bread as it causes me lots of problems! :)

Jellybellyrbest · 31/07/2013 19:50

Hi, I'm 7w into my 4th pregnancy & have had awful trapped wind for all previous 3 & am waiting with bated breath for it to start. I've had a little grumbling/irritated gut thing going on but not too bad. What I have noticed is that having dairy products makes it worse & also mixing protein & carbs.....have always thought I had a slight problem with some dairy, but not enough to cut it out. Am now seriously considering trying a milk alternative (so I can still have my morning coffee!!), but not sure which to try yet. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'll def be trying some of the above remedies (love lime & ginger so looking forward to that & it might also help the nausea). But where do I get ingestible peppermint oil from?.....

Tigglettchic · 31/07/2013 19:53

I know it sounds funny and weird but truly works -

Knee down, bend over the hips so you are in like a bridge position but put your bum higher than you tum, it works wonders!

Also, drink hot water with a squeeze of lemon in it.

Good luck x
