Exercise in pregnancy - what are you doing?

I'm interested to know what you pregnant ladies out there are doing exercise-wise. I am 9 weeks and checked with my midwife who advised the standard line of nothing new or too intense - but fine to keep up what I was doing already if I take it steady.

When I found out I was pregnant I'd just got back into spinning and body pump classes .... It's my first pregnancy so didn't want to push it and haven't been going to these since as they are high intensity and work the ab region/core a lot.

I have done a couple of longish cycle rides (taking it steady), been for a slow run (before the weather got too hot) and have been trying to swim a couple of times a week.

Once I feel like eating normal food again and don't feel so knackered, I'll be signing up for preggo yoga and doing swimming 3+ times a week.

Just interested to see what other people in the same situation are doing really... and to get some more ideas of other stuff I could be doing. I feel so much better once I've been swimming so feel like I need to force myself to keep going!

I am 11 weeks and feel terrible with all day nausea and tiredness but I am managing to cycle about 15 miles at least 3 times a week, an hour of pilates and I would normally swim at 6am before work but its fallen by the wayside until I feel more normal! I am a physio as well so have a very active day job. I wear a heart rate monitor when exercising and make sure I do not go over 160 bpm (the hills on the bike are a challenge to keep HR low but generally sit around 140).
The reason I am using a HR monitor is because I had a mmc in Feb diagnosed at 11 weeks however, I was running hard and long when I didn't know I was pregnant and had lower abdominal pains during 2 runs. At 7 weeks I was diagnosed with a subchorionic haematoma and an irregular gestational sac (and back dated a week). I am not unconvinced these factors lead or contributed to my mmc (as the embryo did not grow beyond 6.5 weeks). So although I won't not run, I def want to keep exercise to a more sedate level than what I was previously used to (normally I would be ironman/triathlon training).

Well I don't fit in here with all you active people! I'm 29 weeks and I walk the dogs pretty slowly for at least 45 minutes once or twice a day. I run around after my DS who rarely lets me sit down. I can't swim as it makes my PGP worse.

Wow you're making me feel very guilty - i've nothing exercise wise this pg...I've got a 20 month old and 37 weeks, plus still working full time so haven't found the time or energy to, but feel very guilty for not doing any specific exercise this time. I walk a lot and run around after my toddler but not been to the gym, yoga or swimming Sad

Worked out 4 days a week last time.

I'm doing body pump, a pregnancy aerobics class, aqua and swimming when i can. Some Wks are better than others. I also have Erin O'Brien on DVD Grin

I was half marathon fit when I got pregnant. Now 20 weeks and I think I have just about hung up my trainers. The actual running is fine, but I am finding my bladder gets really irritated, I guess with increased size of the uterus, and it's horribly annoying. I haven't totally ruled out a short trot tomorrow though...

I am still cycling to work 2 or 3 times a week (20 mile round trip), swim 2km a few times a week and most weeks do 2 pilates classes. They're regular classes, the instructor just gives me adaptations. Eventually I suppose I will have to switch to antenatal, but not ready yet!

If I don't exercise I feel so much worse, and it prevents back pain. I should probably do more conditioning though; I had to stop circuits as it was too difficult to get adaptations when everyone was doing different things. Wondering about a DVD perhaps.

I'm 14 weeks and do pilates (machines) twice a week, prenatal yoga once a week and two, four-mile runs.

I worked out right until the day before with DC1, and am hoping to do the same this time round.

Thanks for all the replies Grin you've given me the confidence to get back to body pump again and see how it works with the pg... Might also try running gently now that this heat wave has died down. Anything which gives me more energy - and allows me to eat more pizza.

Oh and for you ladies who already have children and are struggling to fit gym/swimming in, I barely manage with just myself to look after, so completely understandable!
