Eat something bland, maybe. Have a rest.

It's just generic lucozade (sugar and water essentially) though, so no antidote.

whiteandyellowiris · 26/07/2013 12:15

oh thanks, I suppose I thought perhaps milk could neutralise that amount of sugar or something

think i'll try a slice of bread

lucozade doesn't make me feel ill like this, don't know why they don't let us have that instead
I would gladly buy it

I would eat some carbs, perhaps a bowl of porridge.

datamonkey88 · 26/07/2013 12:18

I had mine yesterday and felt really, really odd for the next few hours. Just very vague, and tired and half-crashing.

They made us have lucozade, which I was annoyed about as half the stuff in it is stuff I've been religiously avoiding since getting pregnant!

I'd recommend having a nap and drinking plenty of water, not much help I know but hopefully you should feel better in a few hours. :)

whiteandyellowiris · 26/07/2013 12:20

yeah I think, I should probably just go to bed as maybe I could sleep it off or something

shall try and eat something first
yeah carby food

I would eat some protein, so milk should help, as I seem to remember reading something about protein reducing the overall GI when eaten with sugary food. I've got my GTT in a few weeks, not looking forward to it!

AhoyAhoy · 26/07/2013 12:49

I've just got home from mine. Had waves of nausea and dizziness for a while- went and sat in the testing room, and think I passed out for a moment on the way home.

I have just eaten a big ham and cheese roll, quavers and a big glass of icy squash. Lying down now and starting to feel a bit more human.

LateBear · 26/07/2013 12:59

Ham and cheese roll sounds ideal! I was told to bring food with me to mine so that I can eat as soon as it's over, will defo bring one of those.

curlew · 26/07/2013 13:02

I fainted after mine- in front of an Italian restaurant.

A bowl of chicken broth with pasta and a glass of red wine on the house in a cool quiet backroom did wonders for me !

RawCoconutMacaroon · 26/07/2013 13:17

Fat and protein foods as soon as possible after the test should help level out the sugar crash... Not carby food (that's just more sugar!). No help to the OP, but if you're due to have the test, take some nuts, some cheese or similar with you and eat it as soon as the blood test(s) have been done.

FoofFighter · 26/07/2013 13:23

They should tell you to go immediately and get yourself something to eat (protein and fat best to limit carbs after all that sugar). My first one at 11w I almost keeled over after walking back into town to go for lunch. My second one I knew better and went straight downstairs to the hospital canteen and had something to eat (ham and cheese omelette in my case) and drink and sat for a while.

midori1999 · 26/07/2013 13:27

I have never felt ill during my GTTs and I have GD, but eating carbs would only make it worse I would imagine. Nuts or cheese are a good suggestion.

I have always been given lucozade to drink at mine, except at the first one, which was a lemony drink and that did taste vile, so if you had that I sympathise.

whiteandyellowiris · 26/07/2013 13:28

oh shit I ate a crisp sandwhich

You have my sympathy I had mine yesterday and felt very rough indeed for a few hours. I ate an omelette and chips ( i know carbs ) but was so shaky from it all I just figured needed something big to chew through while getting over the shaking. OK in late afternoon and then crashed by about 7pm. Hope you are feeling better soon x x x

Lozcat86 · 19/09/2013 19:48

Just looking back on old threads and found this. I thought it was just me! I had this problem after my GTT last week. I had to drink lucozade which was horrible (not a fan!) but afterwards I felt terrible for ages even after eating.
Luckily all came back ok.

sanityisamyth · 19/09/2013 20:00

I'm really not looking forward to mine. I've only ever drunk Lucozade (or similar) once - at uni doing an experiment looking at volume of drink consumed on urine output. I was assigned Lucozade it made me feel bloody awful - splitting headaches, nausea and stomach aches.

I think I have a carbohydrate intolerance of some description - I get the same symptoms when I take strepsils etc. which have a warning on the packet I only put the link together a year or so ago.

SomethingOnce · 21/09/2013 18:57

sanity, original Lucozade and Strepsils Orange both contain Sunset Yellow (E110) which is suspected by some of causing symptoms not unlike those you describe, so maybe it's that rather than the carbs.

sanityisamyth · 21/09/2013 21:38

Ohhhh that's a good point - I'll look into it. Still not looking forward to the GTT though :(

Hi, I had my glucose test this morning and ever since I’ve had a really sore throat and just felt a bit under the weather, is this normal?
