Sorry for another thread on undies, but I could not find the answer to this other than "size up after delivery". Does this mean one size up? Two? Several?

I am nearly at 31 weeks and am still wearing my old knickers - they are boy short style so they fit under the bump.

It depends

remember that your belly will sag after birth (most likely) so you'll definitely be more comfortable in one size bigger. if you have a cesarean you'll want pants that come up much higher as resting under the bump at the moment will probably mean they'll be resting right on the wound post birth.

I bought a coiple of multipacks of tescos big pants and the were fab Grin

I've gone 2 sizes up in case of C section and am wearing my normal boy shorts at 40 plus weeks because they still fit as you say so will use those under saggy belly if needs be.

Sexy.

Really sexy.

CheeseFondueRocks · 25/07/2013 15:04

With DD1 I bought pants 2 sizes up in case of a section. If you double up maternity towels like the midwifes will tell you at the beginning, you'll also need a lot of extra space.

I was a size 10-12 pre preg & bought size 18 massive Asda granny pants for post birth. Lucky I did as had an EMCS.

still wearing them 10 months later, but they are massive

Bambi27 · 25/07/2013 15:08

I bought granny pants after having dd and have never gone back!! Obviously in smaller sizes now but do much comfy than silly thongs!!!

Cavort · 25/07/2013 16:38

I bought massive granny pants as everyone advised but only wore them for a few days before buying some much more flattering normal-sized briefs (natural delivery). I put 2 stone on while pregnant and at 3 weeks postpartum I am currently around 1 size bigger than normal.

BenedictCumberbitch · 25/07/2013 16:39

I was size-small-planet after DS, despite being a 12 during pregnancy. (He was verrrrrrrry big and I was all out front so once he was born, my tummy just dropped and was massive until my womb started shrinking right down).

I'd advise going with 2 sizes bigger...they'll likely only be a bit bigger, if that.

By the time you need new ones they'll mostly be ruined anyway (scuse the TMI but I wish someone had told me!) Smile

Thank you for the extremely helpful replies! Two sizes bigger in granny pants it is, then... and I'll give some thought to some spares in four sizes bigger, Forgetful Shock

Can I just add to stay away from disposable knickers! They are the work of the devil! They are horrible hot sweaty nasty things. They also sit right where your scar will be if you need a CS. Oh and they are double the price of plain granny knickers from Tesco. I bought one pack of two sizes up and two packs in one size up. Think they were something like £4 for a pack of 8 so 50p a pair. Not bad!
Good luck! Smile

fairypangolin · 25/07/2013 20:53

I was normally a size 12 but bought size 18 enormo-knickers from ASDA. I had an EMCS and did not regret the extra roominess, esp over the incision because I had a dressing. I had lochia for about 6 weeks as well so they were well worth it as I could just throw them away then. I think if you have a natural birth you go back to normal a lot more quickly, goodness knows why.

Bunnylion · 25/07/2013 23:26

Well I bought some fitted sheets for the Moses basket, washed them and they are hanging out to dry today.

My DH came home from work today and said, completely genuinely, "oh did you buy some post maternity knickers?".

The sheets are literally 2 foot long... Way to make a girl self conscious about her new MASSIVE bum Blush

KeepTheFaithBaby · 26/07/2013 08:10

Grin bunny!

I'm normally a 14, wore a 16 for knickers in later pregnancy and had size 18 post birth. Nice cotton

KeepTheFaithBaby · 26/07/2013 08:10

Oops

Cotton cheap ones from Tescos. I bought disposable pants, never came out the packaging!

VelvetStrider · 26/07/2013 08:21

Don't go up more than 1 or 2 sizes. I'm size 8 normally, and followed the advice on here to get very big pants as they would be much more comfortable. So I bought a pack of size 16 high waisted applecatchers. Hmm

The trouble is that the brick-like maternity pads are so bloody heavy that they drag the pants down, and if the waistband isn't a reasonably snug fit then you'll be forever hoisting the things up. I had to send DP out for some 10-12s which worked much better. God knows what they thought in the shop, with a young man buying granny pants!!! Grin

Pocket1 · 26/07/2013 11:11

I'm generally an 8-10 in the knicker department and bought a selection of cheap white pants from primark, £2 for 5 pairs - some 10-12, some 18-20 and some 20-22. I have lived in the 20-22 ones as they were just so comfy. Also had disposable ones, but never used them. Smile

fairypangolin · 26/07/2013 13:19

bunnylion ha ha! i can just imagine my DH saying the same. Grin

Peregrin · 26/07/2013 15:45

ROFL bunny!

I live abroad and the concept of "cheap" hasn't caught on here, so I was planning to order in a pack or two from M&S. Hence wanting to get the size right!
