I'm 27 weeks, and really needed to crack on painting dd room who will be sharing her room with her brother. I know I've still got plenty of time but I thought it would be easier doing now rather then trying to watch a child and a baby!
I had to move her bed which is solid wood and quite big for a single bed! I just pulled it though, it wasn't as heavy as I thought and I had to shift around a couple of draws e.g.

I know they say you should try not to lift e.g. I still have the other half of the room to do which is just toys and a wardrobe that will need moving but its hard to get help when your oh is at work all day!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No I wouldn't, wait for oh to get home so he can do it.

I would have said it should be ok but to use common sense. I am working on the idea that if something is heavier than my DS (around 12kg) then I generally aren't lifting it.

Could you get your OH to help you move it in the morning before he goes to work. Or could you ask a neighbour or friend to pop over & give you a hand for 5 mins.

If you do move it on your own, empty it first of as much as possible.

I've already moved some of it Sad

I'll just get oh to move the wardrobe for me before he goes to work.. ah I feel like shit now.

Don't worry!!

I wouldn't give this as advice but at 37 weeks with my last dc i totally redecorated a room. Lifted the floor. Moved bunks,2 wardrobe& a chest of draws.

Ive pulled a bathroom including floor to ceiling tiles at 5 months pregnant.

Painted & recognised a 3 bedroom house between 7 & 9 months pregnant.

Im NOT advising any pregnant women do as I've done. I ended up doing all that due to my totally useless & tight arse dp not through choice!

Have a rest & take it easy...

Phew!

I had a break for painting, to get something to eat e.g. and I'm def chilling back now!

Women where doing much worse in the olden days i'm sure. Don't feel bad. I always get really agitated when people say 'Oh, don't do this and don't do that' I'm pregnant not dead!

I did get told off yesterday for carrying a hoover up and down the stairs at 40 weeks though. :/ Meh. If you feel fine, I wouldn't worry.

I wouldn't move the wardrobe though!

babynelly2010 · 24/07/2013 20:18

depends on you I think. I push but don't lift furniture, not sure if it makes sense... I lift and cary my DD who is about 13 kg everyday. So I think it depends on what you are used to, if you lift push pull all the time than it should not be a problem.

lozza22 · 24/07/2013 20:22

Again i wouldnt offer this as advice but i helped my friend move flats which involved alot of heavy lifting etc, however this was when i would have been around 5 weeks and didnt yet know i was pregnant.

Point being though that all was well and my daughter is now a healthy 6 year old :-)

I lifted my bed onto risers (planned for a home birth) by myself at 38 weeks and my waters broke 2 days later but no labour. Was induced 2 days after that. I think there was a connection.

AnythingNotEverything · 24/07/2013 20:34

I did some furniture shifting at 27 weeks a couple of weeks ago. I was up most of the night with really sore braxton hicks, and only realised later I probably should've gone to hospital to have them checked as they aren't supposed to hurt!

I don't think it's worth it - either do a little bit each day (very carefully!) or wait for DH!

shniper · 24/07/2013 21:27

I felt fine doing it, as I said to my oh, I know myself I'm strong enough to move the heavy stuff I just have to remember that I have a little one in me now lol. And when something needs doing I can't put it off.... but I've had a word with oh and hes going to shift everything when he finishes work on Sat and help me paint Smile

When I was about 5 weeks I took dd to this park and got lost in the woods, to cut a long story short she didn't want to walk so I had to carry her as well as her ride along motobike! didn't know I was pregnant but baby showed fine at both scans.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't had any pain, and hes been kicking me like mad! so nothing out of the ordinary lol.

I guess just listen to body, my dd2 is only just three but a solid 17 kg! I am 17 wks and struggle to lift her into a trolley seat due to the up And over action you have to do into seat/legholes, she obv walks loads but if need to do a big supermarket shop I need her in trolley so we get round and out! She holds list and lobs stuff in trolley for me. I did online shop this week as really felt tummy muscles pull/stain last time I lifted her but I think it's the 17kg and having to lift her up high into seat that isn't ideal, it's easier to push /pull stuff like furniture, I did that in other pregs no prob and will do again this time, that's easier as you use whole body against weight if bed for example, may think twice about a wardrobe though, would infuriate me waiting for dh to get home frm work and do it as I like to get on but I would prob just leave that for him and out my feet up! Hope you get it all sorted how you want it.
