Ok so i'm 21+5 and this last couple of days the heartburn has seriously kicked in! I know there were threads about this already, but can I find them now I need them, no of course not!

Please any advice would be greatly appreciated. What can I take? So far I've been drinking milk, which has always helped in the past (before I was pg) but now its only a short relief.

It's driving me carzy, making me feel sick, and I want to cry about it!

I know how you feel. The only thing thats really helped me is Rennie's.

I am told they are safe and I have a giant pack of them in my handbag at all times :)

Check with the pharmacist but usually you're allowed Gaviscon. I was craving peppermint like a maniac at your stage but apparently that's a natural heartburn remedy so you could give that a try too?

newtonupontheheath · 24/07/2013 15:41

Gaviscon on prescription, or something stronger if that doesn't work.

Also:

Those little fromage frais or fruubes (? The tube ones that don't need a spoon)

Mints

Ice cream Grin mini milks

Try not to eat too late, especially spicey or salty foods

Try not to eat too much.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 24/07/2013 15:44

Mints, any mints even chewing gum. Is the only thing that works for thought I had got over the heartburn stage. it's just come back at 38 weeks.Hmm

pinkr · 24/07/2013 15:44

Milk can actually make it worse so don't over do it!

PoppyAmex · 24/07/2013 15:58

Buy a bottle of Maalox (behind the counter, ask pharmacist).

It tastes ok, unlike evil Gaviscon, and works within seconds.

Franykins · 24/07/2013 16:06

Thank you all Smile

I have mints in my bag so that is my first point of call until I can get to a shop.

Oh Pinkr how comes milk makes it worse? I've always had milk for heartburn, as does a friend of mine.

Vanilla icecream worked brilliantly well for me in my first pg, but didn't touch it in the second. But that might be because I was using Green & Black's proper vanilla (with bits of vanilla seed an' all) the first time and only some generic vanilla-flavoured ice cream with the second (had to use Tums/Rennies and even resort to the Evil Glop that is Gaviscon)

knittingirl · 24/07/2013 16:12

Rennie, lots of rennie!

purpleaura · 24/07/2013 17:11

I haven't been able to stomach gaviscon or rennies (vom!). Midwife suggested I went to see my gp who gave me a magic prescription for omeprazole. One tablet a day and not a single bit of burning since then- it's been brilliant. So don't suffer in silence- go see your doc and ask for something. It's changed my life!!

TooTiredToBeCreative · 24/07/2013 17:13

Try Gaviscon advanced first, it didn't touch mine so went to doc who prescribed 150mg ranitidine, which I can take twice a day. It hasn't stopped the indigestion/heartburn altogether but does take the edge off the pain.

roofio87 · 24/07/2013 17:18

I second purpleaura omprezole from the gp, definitely saved my sanity!! just take a tablet every day and I've had no heart burn since!!

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 24/07/2013 17:50

Omeprazole got rid of mine too its brilliant stuff, mine was so bad it was making me vomit.

patchesmcp · 24/07/2013 17:51

Agree, go to GP and get Omneprazole, only thing which worked for me.

lisaleigh1986 · 24/07/2013 18:50

i drank a cup full of 1tbs of bicarb of soda mixed with water and it cured my heart burn for months, got to the point where i would try anything it was that bad and as bad as it tastes it worked, ive had peptac and gavi but with them you have to take every few hours, to me its worth drinking the bicarb

pinkr · 24/07/2013 22:26

I think milk is lactic acid so it helps initially but then converts or some thing? Since the dietitian at the hospital told me I cut it out and my heat burn is almost gone!

Franykins · 25/07/2013 09:12

Ah I see Pinkr kinda makes sense.

I stopped on my way home and got some rennies. It has helped so much so will stick with them for now. If it comes back I will see my GP.

Thanks for all the advice Smile
