Been diet controlling for two Weeks now ... Have just cut out milk, fizz, chocolate and crisps but feel like I'm eating plenty still...but my levels are too low. Now my gd nurse is saying I need to add extra carbs to every meal. I'm confused as this will actually lead to me eating much more then I normally would. Dh days I should just eat as I did previously but I'm not sure...is it worse for sugar too low or too high? The dietitian is calling me today but I'm scared now that i've harmed the baby as the nurse really didn't sound happy.

Im sure you havent harmed your baby, don't worry. Sounds strange that she said more carbs? I would have thought she said more protein as it keeps you fuller for longer. Also milk is good for you, so maybe rethink cutting that out unless it really affects your readings? Good luck with the dietician!

Thanks! She was lovely...the milk was cut because it was so high in sugar and I could drink pints in a day. She has said to step up the carbs a but and now take a glass of milk with meals. I'm beginning to wonder about the whole thing...I had lunch out today with a fresh pizza and I had Pavlova for pudding and my levels are still in the zone. Starting to wonder about the whole diagnosis tbh.

You do need to eat enough carbs in pregnancy, so if your diet is normally low in carbs then it could be that you're not eating enough.

Or, it could be that you were borderline at your GTT and can get away with eating things now, that in a few weeks or so you won't be able to. I was diagnosed at 8 weeks in this pregnancy and could get away with eating a lot more then than I can now at 28 weeks, despite the fact I am now on insulin anyway.

It can also seem totally random what affects you and when, which is partly down to hormones.

Hi. I had it in 2 of my pregnancy's. It was a pain in the arse.

I found certain things madet levels shoot up. Bread, anyc cereal yogyogurts etc.

My levels were either high or low could never win.

I was told that they don't worry about low effecting babies its the high that does.

It's all trial and error if you had a good reading remember what you had and go from there.

I was told pizza was a no no had mad craving ate half and was in good reading so that soon became a favorite.

Good luck

Thanks! I have an appointment on Fri and will as then. I tried one test straight after the other today as a matter of interest and there was almost .8 of a difference...one reading took me to just above six and the other just about five. Weird
