V early show = v early baby??

31w and yesterday morning woke up feeling nauseous and crampy bump.
Kept tightening and getting stronger. I then had upset tummy (both
ends) and what I can only describe as about 15-20 contractions over
the next 5 hours or so.

Half were painful and left me breathless lasting around a minute.
They got less painful and eventually no more.

I called the midwife who said they could just be braxton hicks, but
that those shouldn't be painful. She also said being sick could have
alarmed my uterus and not to worry.

This morning I feel fine, just the odd usual twinge - and then I got a
show... should I start to worry?!

Did anyone else have an early show and early early baby? My last was a
week before which I thought was fairly normal. Please stay in there!!

I think its fairly common for the baby to arrive within a week or two of the show. Also, what you describe doesn't sound like Braxton hicks. I would recomend getting thoroughly ckecked out. I'm not an expert, but I think if the birth is imminent then you should probably be administered steroids. I don't mean to worry you, and appologies if my information is not up to date, but I would strongly recomend medical attention. I'm sure all will be fine but please get properly checked out. Best of luck

I totally agree with SJ

You need to get checked out at your maternity unit. They'll do a fibronectin test which will give them an idea of whether you're likely to give birth within the next two weeks. If it comes back positive (I.e you're likely to give birth), then they can give you drugs to relax your uterus and stop the contractions, and can also give you steroid injections for baby's lungs.

I had to go in at 30 weeks due to v strong tightenings, but due to having had sex that day (Shock) couldn't have the fibronectin test until 24 hours after intercourse. They had me on an IV with the uterus relaxants and did the course of steroid injections in the interim. Luckily the test came back negative and I was allowed to go home. Now 38 + 3 and willing the baby to come!

But, probably best to get checked out.

Thanks all. Called the midwife who said 'hmm, a little worrying but sont stress, call labour ward'. They said don't panic - stay at home but one more contraction or severe twinge and head over for the test you ladies mention. Hoping that nothing more than a bit of undue stress got me a bit worked up and that I can stay calm for a while!!

Thanks everyone.

How are you doing op?

Hope you're okay, I had a mini panic the other day over back aches radiating around to my front and an upset tummy, so I can empathise with your worry . Drink plenty water and put your feet up x
