Braxton Hicks at 27 weeks

Two nights ago I woke up in a bit of pain / doscpmfort from what felt like a contraction. Yesterday I continued to have what felt like quite a few tightenings but with no pain.

Although I haven't monitored previously I feel like the baby might have been moving less frequently than before, though I have felt a few movements this morning.

I rang a midwife who advised me to drink lots of water but only need to come in if the contractions are painful. I've been noting down the timings and I had 3 this morning before 10am, but 4 since then.

Do you think it's worth me calling back and asking to go in even though they're not painful? This is DC1 so no experience of this before and don't want to either massively overreact or ignore a warning sign.

Any experience or advice gratefully received.

Forgot to add that the midwife didn't ask how many I'd had or how frequent. Only now I've found some websites that say more than 4 an hour need to be checked out.

I had 5 or 6 in 45 mins a few days ago, not particularly painful or anything, I'm 28 weeks. I rang maternity triage in a complete panic and they got me to come in and get checked out. Everything was absolutely fine.

I have found that I need to drink and drink and drink a rediculous amount of water, or they start up again. If they start I get a huge bottle of water and go and lie down for a while. They seem to stop.

If you are worried, phone them back and explain that you were told to contact someone if you had more than 4 in an hour, and ask for their advice. Explain that you are feeling really worried.

The dr I saw the other day explained that some women will have more than 4 per hour and it will still be fine. We now know that I am one of those, so I should leave it longer next time and only panic if they are becoming more regular and painful.

They asked me if baby was moving normally, is yours?

I think you should go checked out for your peace of mind.

I had loads of BH when pregnant, 30-40 a day (and as many again at night). You could see my belly contract and they felt really weird but not painful. My doc asked me to take it easy and stay mainly in bed from 29wks to 35wks, after whcih I got up and continued as normal and my waters did not break until 38+3.

So a lot of BH can be normal, don't panic, but see a doctor just to make sure. No harm in checking things out.
