Anyone elses DH work from home and driving them nuts?

oh no! Pressed enter!!!

Hi- this is a bit of a whinge really. And probably hormones talking, and probably in the wrong place.

But I've been on Mat Leave for a couple of weeks now, and DH works from home. I can't get over how little work he actually does! He starts about 9:30 and will then break at 12:00 for about 2 hours. At lunchtime, whatever i've been getting on with pretty much has to stop as he'll come in the lounge, turn the TV on/ computer on. So if i've been listening to music or whatever, then that has to stop.

Today- he then practiced darts during the lunchbreak (his darts board is in the lounge, so it creates a 'crossing' if I want to move from sofa to anywhere else in the house) as well as the thud thud thud. Also, I explained that I was having salad for lunch which he wouldn't want, so he'd have to fix lunch himself. I got the response 'hmm, maybe'. Then 1 1/2 hours later he still hadn't made lunch, and he's been under a lot of stress recently, so I crumbled and made him a sandwich.

I can't do this for a year???!! I'll kill him! Does anyone else- with children have a DH who works from home. How does it work? Help!

(and sorry for double post/ ranting)

My dp works from home but is the opposite. I have to shout him to remind him to get his lunch (I make it and we eat with dd which is nice) then he is back up to work until 6 ish when I shout him down to see dd for 30 minutes before her bath. Then lately he has been working past midnight every night too!

The main issue I have is trying to keep dd quiet as if he is on the phone it doesn't look very professional

Mine works from home and it drives me MAD ! Sometimes I'm knackered, and really need help, but I can't ask him. I have to respect that he is working.

Its all so precious, he has a long hour off for lunch, and totters back into his quiet calm child free office to work without interruption Angry

i would rather he was out of the house so I couldn't see him, I know I'm being unfair and irrational , but it makes me so evil.

I would rather dp worked outside the home too.

His office is also the baby's bedroom which is why she is still in with us at ten months.

My DH was working from home today. Constant interruptions of what I'm doing. Then he has the bright idea of taking a long lunch break to do DIY (as no journey to work today). He has injured himself and spent the entire rest of the day telling me how much pain he's in. I am considering murdering him and using his corpse to help me finish the job!
Not PG but today is my first day off for weeks. I've been dreaming about some me time and grrrrr!

Mine works from home 2-3 days a week. Am on mat leave at the mo and yes, he is mildly annoying but quite handy for being in for deliveries etc. I normally work Mon to Thurs so Fri is only day I'm normally at home with the older DC and it can be a bit of PITA trying to stop them bothering him if he's home on a Fri. DS2 is 2.5 and v much a Daddy's boy so always wants to go see Daddy. DH on second week of paternity leave at moment so looking forward to the days he's here from next week as he will deal with DS1 and DS2 and potentially deliver them to childcare so I can lay in bed with DS3 but not looking forward to having to marshal all 3 kids whilst DH is trying to have important Skype call in his office.... Plus with arrival of DS3 we've had to replace DH's desk in bedroom 3 with a cot so desk is now in our bedroom making it effectively out of bounds to me on days DH is here... So it's swings and roundabouts for me really.

Mayanbob · 23/07/2013 11:04

miss A That is the deal with us, although hoping to move house over the next year.

DH doesn't have any such decorum with his work - I wish he did have Skype calls then perhaps he'd bother putting actual clothes on rather than PJs he doesn't work nekkid

But wolfie please don't murder him... He might come in useful again at some point. Grin

Thanks for giving me a good chuckle, ladies. Mine has told me he will work from home throughout my ML......am sure it will be lovely for the first 3 weeks then I feel cabin fever might set in.... Need to get his man cave sorted in basement asap.

Chickpea1983 · 23/07/2013 12:23

I am the total opposite Smile. I work from home and will be going back to work after 12 weeks and DH will leave his job and be stay-at-home-dad. I am reading this with interest so I don't piss him off by getting into these bad habits!!

I do however, have a shower every morning and get dressed before work, so no nekkid or pj habits to crack before baby arrives Grin
