Hi everyone,

This is probably going to be a very stupid question but this is all very new to me.

I took a digital pregnancy test today which dated me at 2-3 weeks.

Do these weeks count from conception or implantation?

Because I thought it was from implantation but 2 weeks back from today is the 7th July which is the day before I think I ovulated?? Confused

So how does that work??

And if I'm nearer the 3 week mark that makes it even more confusing!

How accurate is their dating capability??

I think you need to add 2 weeks onto that. So you would actually be 4-5 weeks pregnant. I think.

Writerwannabe83 · 21/07/2013 20:58

But how can that be if I only ovulated 2 weeks ago?

I don't understand Grin Confused

Those tests date it from actual conception. So the test is 2-3 weeks from conception. But for your ante natal care they date from your last period, so that will translate as 4-5 weeks.

I still regard it as something of a medical mystery that you are pregnant for two weeks before you conceive Grin

The only date anyone cares about is the date of the first day of your last period. Your mw and doctors use this date to date your pregnancy until your 12-week scan. As thedementedpenguin said, this correspond roughly to adding two weeks to the clear blue digital result.

TinkyPeet · 21/07/2013 21:00

The clear blue are a conception indicator, goes by the levels of hormone in your wee, which is your 2-3 weeks, but pregnancy is dated from your lmp, 2 weeks before. It's just how it works :) lol x

ClutchingMyPearls · 21/07/2013 21:01

Writer I think they date the pregnancy from the first day of your last period so even if you ov'd 2 weeks ago they class it as 4 weeks ... Just terminology for the medical profs I think !

Writerwannabe83 · 21/07/2013 21:02

Oh I see, thank you everyone!!

Amanda - I agree with the Medical Mystery!!

So technically I'm already a month pregnant??

It's because most women don't know when they ovulate.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 21/07/2013 21:05

Yup. You were two weeks pregnant before you got pregnant. Absolute miracle isn't it!

Seriously, it's because until recently the only reliable information available was a woman's last period. So everything was dated from that. And although these days women who are TTC may know when they ovulated, others won't, or won't reliably, and unplanned pregnancies certainly won't. So they stick with the old style approach.

Writerwannabe83 · 21/07/2013 21:50

So, If I'm going into my 5th week now, does that mean I'll have my first scan in only 7 weeks??? Smile

Or is it still 12 weeks from when you get a BFP?

Everything is done from the date of your last period. Everything. Ignore the funny numbers of the pregnancy test and you'll be fine Grin.

12 week scan is 12 weeks from the date of your last period.

Writerwannabe83 · 21/07/2013 21:55

Woohoo!!

That has made me feel really excited!!!!! Grin

I promise to stop asking stupid questions now.... Hmm x

Stupid questions are pretty much obligatory with your first Smile
