Hi ladies, trying to decide what's best and would like your experiences/thoughts please :)

I was advised that a foam mattress should only be used permanently for under 1s as they don't give enough support for heavier children.

I had foam for DC1. Whenever I washed the cover I got horrible electric shocks off it!

For DC2 I bought a pocket sprung one - it wasn't that much more expensive and it seems so much nicer and supportive and like it will last into toddler-hood.

Get sprung for a cotbed as it will be used for 3-4 years probably. Foam isn't very nice when they are children as opposed to babies.

We literally had to go and get one this morning - DD (14 weeks) has decided she doesn't like sleeping in her Moses basket! We went for a sprung mattress. We figured for the difference in cost and the fact that a decent mattress will last for as long as she needs the cot/little bed so it was worth the money.

We bought a foam one and there's already a dip where her head goes yet she is only 19 weeks old.

We've started sleeping her at the other end but when that starts to dip we'll be replacing it with a sprung one.

Sprung it has always worked really well for us (and they are great for them to bounce on Smile )
