I was already fat before I got pregnant but now im 20 weeks and have obviously put more weight on (probably too much) anyway the trouble im having is that when I wear a dress or skirt my fat thighs rub together, I tried using talc powder which worked for about 15 minutes. By the time I've got home my thighs are so sore from rubbing together that it looks like someone has pressed a hot iron against my legs and its sooo sore, I've had a cool bath and put some germolene on them but is there anything I can use to stop them chaffing in the 1st place? (other then not being a fat bitch of course!)

Someone asked about this on AIBU quite recently, and got lots of advice. Will attempt to link to it...

You could try lanacane cream from chemist which is made especially for this. I am a size 14 so I wouldn't say that big but have suffered from this problem from time to time, dont beat yourself up about your weight xxx
the cream worked well for me. Otherwise you could try Vaseline rubbed on inside of both thighs till you get to the shops.
Good luck, hope you feel better soon xxxx

I have suffered from this since I was young! Whether I am a size 10 or 18 I still have it really badly! Apparently my pelvis is very small (god help me giving birth) but anyway I use lanacane cream! It's available at most chemists and you only need to use a little bit each time but it really does work. Xxx

Even I've had that a bit this summer and I'm neither overweight nor pregnant, but it's not nice :(

not that it's any advice.. I hope you find a solution, this weather is 99% good but I work in homecare and it does cause some issues; oedema is another! xxx

Thanks for all the replies and the link, I will definitely try some of the suggestions. Hopefully this time next year it wont be so much of a problem.

I just wear thin tights, 21+1 and totally totally feeling your pain. It's so bad that when I'm just out the shower I have to hold my towel between my legs to stop the rubbing Blush

SaucyJack · 21/07/2013 19:41

TK Maxx are selling longer length knickers at the mo. Cycling short length, but more fifties glam in style.

Jenjen85 · 21/07/2013 19:54

Have you tried spraying deodorant between your legs? Iv just had my DD and with this hot weather my legs have been rubbing together too so I tried spraying sure deodorant between my legs and it works (just on the tops of my thighs). Has kept mine chafe free all day although occasionally iv had to re spray.

PseudoBadger · 21/07/2013 20:51

Someone said to me the other day that she's wearing her dh's boxer shorts. I may try this...

Ginformation · 21/07/2013 20:55

Use roll on deodorant on your thighs. It REALLY works, lasts all day too. I picked this up from a S&B thread. For the first summer ever I have not chafed. Do not apply to already chafed skin tho...

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 21/07/2013 21:55

hi OP i feel your pain. i've suffered from 'rubby thigh' for as long as i remember. i have recently bough a pair of cotton cycling shorts from peacocks and it's changed my life. i was never able to wear skirts/dresses without wearing tights before so this as massively helped! just make sure you wear a skirt long enough so you can't see them! i didn't find the lanacane worked for me sadly...i seem to get very clammy skin.

toni1bump · 22/07/2013 13:22

I just wear cycling shorts under dresses :)

Boosiehs · 22/07/2013 13:23

Cycling shorts or culotte petticoat!

Both from Amazon.

crazyhead · 22/07/2013 14:48

vaseline? it's what runners use to stop chafing

babybear9 · 22/07/2013 15:04

lanacane all the way. once dried i added talc too just for good measure. if im going to walk a lot, always wear those spanx shorts

knittingirl · 22/07/2013 16:54

I have found the best thing is to wear a pair of dh's boxer shorts - did so all last week in the hot weather when I couldn't wear tights and it totally stopped the chaffing Grin. I would have worn cycling shorts or something but my only ones were too long to go with my dresses.

42andcounting · 22/07/2013 17:09

Talc, then mitchum stick deodorant works a treat for me, also less sting-y than spray if you're already sore. Savlon for bed time if the skin is already broken really helped me too.
