"Odd" pregnancy behaviours

I'm 21 weeks and I keep getting jokes from family members about odd foods like peanut butter pizza or something, I don't pay it much attention, but I was in the shop with DH a few days ago and I was thinking, I've not had any odd pregnancy eating habits I don't think. Then we walked past the Mexican selection...jalapeños. About a week before BFP (we found out at 5 weeks) DH was making chilli con carne and I sat with a fork and ate a whole jar of extra hot sliced jalapeños. Worst bit is upon remembering this I wanted to do it again! Roll on pay day Grin.

So ladies just for funs, any strange things you've done since being pregnant?

Night before my BFP I was at my mum's for dinner. My aunt gave me one of her pork chops as I was really hungry, and my mum gave me the last bit of her jacket potato.

My dad ended up having to work late and never made it home on time and I ate his dinner too!

Had no idea why I was so hungry at the time - not like me at all!

As for weird foods (if you can class this as food) I have recently developed a craving for (but not eaten) chalk. Yes. Chalk. I don't understand it. My dog brought a large lump back from the beach and has been eating it all week and I'm not really jealous of her at all?!?!? Blush

And I really love bacon - even the smell of it - but I can't eat it. It actually makes me vom Sad

Oh I read something about that, it's called pica (sp?), craving of none food items. If memory serves they think some things are linked to a deficiency, for example a certain one can mean low iron, but not always. Perhaps mention to mw just to see, or google it, I remember finding it interesting when I read it but I haven't really had any none food cravings so I didn't absorb too much of the information lol Grin

I adore smelling sawdust and woodchip :/ I have a bag of it that I stick my head into and just sniff all the time.. it smells so tasty but so far I've resisted the urge to actually eat it..

BraveLilBear · 21/07/2013 04:29

I went a bit weird in the handbag section of a department store... the smell of leather was amazing. Had to walk away before security got suspicious!

Had to stop playing computer games for most of my pregnancy as it triggered nausea.

And the latest addition is a total risk aversion... crossing roads and eve being a passenger in a car is a total nightmare- am uber cautious and scared of nearly everything! As a lifelong independent tomboy, this is most disturbing!

CakesAreNotTheAnswer · 21/07/2013 05:41

I used to sniff laundry detergent. Just adored the soapy smell of it. odd.

LotsaTuddles · 21/07/2013 05:55

Grin at some of these.

One night (probably around 20 weeks ish), I got home from work and really wanted Heinz spaghetti, but DH wanted kebab, so we had kebab, with spaghetti on the side Blush, the worst is, I'm now 31+5 and just as bad.

I are everything that I could that was edible yesterday Blush

Looooove filling up my car with petrol and enjoying the lovely petrolly aroma. Brings me such joy.

FoofFighter · 21/07/2013 09:35

About a week after we must have conceived, we were out with friends in a pub we'd not been to for ages, I kept wandering around sniffing and demanding why could I smell christmas and could nobody else smell it? (they couldn't) anyway, went upstairs through 2 closed doors and into the ladies, and found the smell, cinnamon scented xmassy loo roll.
Met OH on the stairs down again, told him, he went Shock and said think you'd better test, we know what this means! Grin

Also a few months in I was putting bacon on the grill and had to restrain myself from eating it raw.

FoofFighter · 21/07/2013 09:36

Brave Lil Bear, I had to delete Candy Crush for the same reasons, I can't look at even the aadvert on TV now without feeling urgh Confused

Newmum0113 · 21/07/2013 09:51

Glad I'm not alone on the crazy thing! ahoy I too love filling up the car - unfortunately was hit with baby brain at 19 weeks and filled DHs car with petrol instead of diesel... Blush cost me £200 to get it pumped out etc. Sad

chillis thanks for the info - I'd heard of sth similar but it wasn't PG related - it was on tv and the woman was eating the sponge of her sofa cushion, to the point of being ill!!

brave I too have always been an independent tomboy too - and am concerned about getting in the car with particular people, out of the blue! Also more worried about hazards at work and walking to my office (I work inside a prison so walk past all the offenders all the time)

RememberingMyPFEs · 21/07/2013 10:06

BraveLilBear - I have the risk aversion thing going on too - driving me and DH potty Blush

chillisbopper · 21/07/2013 10:18

Thanks for all the responses ladies, its great fun reading these, keep them coming Smile.

BraveLilBear - I also have the risk aversion thing going on. I've always been the nervous worrying type but it's sooo much worse since being pregnant. I dread to think how fussy and protective I'll be once the little guy is actually here Grin!

FoofFighter - I haven't really noticed a heightened sense of smell but last week I went to lay down on the sofa and put a throw pillow under my head, all I could smell was baby food! I've a big family (lots of nieces and nephews) so I'm familiar with the smell and that is 100% what I could smell. Except the pillows and sofa are both new (about 5 months!) and no children have visited my house since getting them so it's impossible, but I still can't lay on those pillows now!

Was in Sainsbury's the other day and the only aisle that had any food I could even begin to contemplate eating was the pet food aisle. The worst of it is, I'm vegetarian.

Newmum0113 · 23/07/2013 09:20

saucy my cousin's wife was the same! She had to stop feeding the dogs in order to prevent herself actually eating any.

She has a beautiful 3mo baby boy now so I'm sure we can all make it through this crazy yucky time as long as we stick together!

Smile

I seem to have developed a pork craving from somewhere...don't know what's going on there! All I can think about is pork pies all the time, dancing around in my head! Haha! Going to end up massive before this little one comes along!
