Can baby's movements be TOO strong?

This is probably a silly question as I know lots of movement is a sign of a healthy baby, however over the past 48 hours baby has been kicking the hell out of me, to the point of being really uncomfortable. He is stretching me in ways my body does not want to stretch.

He has moved down a lot and when he kicks/punches/headbutts my cervix (I have no idea which way he's lying anymore) it often makes me cry out in pain, which has happened a lot the past two evenings.

Is this just normal? Really worried that if his assault on my cervix is this painful, how the hell am I going to cope with giving birth. Am I being a total wimp?

It's fairly normal. It's not nice though!!

DS used to hurt me with his elbows towards the end and I often had bad shooting pains down my cervix that made me certain my waters were about to go or he was on his way and I didn't know!

He was actually late and the waters didn't break til he was crowning so it goes to show how 'normal' those pains turned out to be Grin

Worth asking MW anyway to put your mind at rest!

Totally normal if rather unpleasant. Grin

As much as it's reassuring that there's nothing to worry about, it's slightly depressing that I have another six weeks of this!

Thanks for your replies :)

The kicks and punches get less strong in the last few weeks as they have a bit less room to take a swing! But the being "too full of baby" feeling obviously increases ... Good luck, your baby will be here before you know it

I think any change in movement is meant to be checked out, whether excessive or reduced. If you are at all concerned, I would go get monitored and put your mind at ease.

I agree with above poster, if the movement isn't normal for this baby then get it checked out.

Gerty1002 · 17/07/2013 09:22

Well he's always been a right little wriggler, it just seems that they feel much stronger lately, but I think he's possibly moved back to transverse position, meaning he's a bit more squished up length-wise. I did wonder whether it might be a sign of distress...

gerty 27 weeks here and finding my baby is moving in ways that sometimes take my breath away. Very uncomfortable. Pushing limbs out here and there.

Lovely to know he's there and growing, getting stronger but sometimes I don't wanna be attacked!

Gerty1002 · 17/07/2013 09:42

I'm at 33+5 and it just feels like he can't possibly grow anymore or he'll break out! My bump isn't overly big but there's not much fluid in there and I haven't really gained weight anywhere else - he's all just arms and legs. It is reassuring but bloody uncomfortable at the same time.

It's so hard to know what's normal with your first!

Thing is, this wasn't normal with my first (a girl) but this is a boy.

He will eventually run out of room and permanently have limbs poking everywhere!

God I remember the last few weeks of being pregnant with DS2 so vividly!

Massive bump (he was 10lb12oz at birth) and he was incredibly, violently wriggly/somersaulty.

I was working as a riding instructor at the time and on one occasion I remember standing in the middle of the yard, bent over, legs crossed, clutching my bump and yelling because he was tumbling about, kicking and flailing and it really bloody hurt!

Gerty1002 · 17/07/2013 12:26

CalamityKate I'm often making people panic thinking I'm going into labour when I cry out. God help me when I actually do! It is actually making me reconsider my pain relief plans - not sure gas and air is going to cut it!
