ECV today, I'm terrified!

I'm 37+3 and I am booked in for an ECV today, I told the consultant that I was not keen on having the ECV as I don't like the thought of moving baby from the position that he/she is comfy in.

I am so nervous and I don't want to go through with it, my consultant said that he will book it and I can decide on the day but I feel pressured into having it done.

I just want the baby to be safe, It only having a 50% chance of working and the fact that it could distress the baby makes me want to say no.

I hope I don't feel pressured into having it if I really feel strongly about them not performing it.

If anyone has had this done I would love to hear your stories good/bad!

If you don't want it done then don't. Nobody can force you. My DS was breech and they offered me the ECV and I turned it down. He was born by safely by C section at 39+1. For me, it wasn't worth the risk as I read some horror stories!!
Be firm with your decision whatever it is. Your body , your choice xxx

if your instincts are saying don't do it, don't. You know your body, and it's your baby. Don't feel pressured.

I had one and it didn't work and i wish i hadn't as i went into labour the next day. It is quite intense and takes your breath away too. for the next baby i am going to refuse given what i know now. it's very counter intuitive.

a friend had a good experience though, the baby turned and she avoided a cs so it is all down to getting all the information before you decide

Only 26+6 with my first DC, so no advice, just a hug and good luck for today. Smile

Hope it all goes ok for you.

This might not be something you are interested in but I've heard that acupuncture can be very effective in helping to turn a breach baby. Obviously it's not something everyone wants to try as some people are skeptical about it. I swear by it and know that it is one of the alternative therapies which you can actually have on the NHS now in some areas which does give it some credence.

If you really don't want to go with the procedure booked it might be worth looking into it. Good luck with whatever you decide

I have absolutely NO expert knowledge - but I read up on this when I thought my ds might be breech... it seems to me that those whose babies turned during ECV found the proceedure 'ok' and those whose babies didn't found it very unpleasant and painful. Those whose didn't turn often were found to have a heart-shaped uterus so the baby's head is stuck up in one lobe of the heart.
Based on that, it might be worth asking the consultant if they can stop as soon as it gets too sore/uncomfortable??

If you don't want to then DON'T. Your body your baby!!! They can't force you!!!

I had one i was scared but it was ok didn't hurt and they didn't even have to give me the muscle relaxant. But my baby was quite small so maybe that's why it wasnt painful.

There are other options. The spinning babies website has been mentioned a few times on here, you can look through that instead. DO NOT be FORCED into anything!!! Xx
