Sciatica at 12 weeks??

Ouch ouch and double ouch

I have always had a little bit of a sensitive sciatic nerve but oh my god, in the last 10days I have had a pain in my left butt cheek. It has been so sore, I turn over in the bed and yelp!!

It has now moved a little to my coccyx and lower back.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what helped??

Thanks

I hear you! I've had it too since about 12 weeks, the only things that help are trying to keep walking of an evening when I can and trying to keep active at work because i sit down alot and it definitely aggravates it.

If not i lie on the livingroom floor and roll about on the nerve, it provides a bit of relief but looks a bit nuts, ha ha!

Hope u find something that helps, I thought it would be something that would happen later on in pregnancy, not now! It's such a pain!

I am so pleased I am not alone (sorry!!)

I called the midwife and she has made a referral to the Physio but was shocked that I was getting it at 12 weeks, I hope I don't end up like one of those crazy pregnant women with crutches!!!!!

How far are you now?

Ha ha I was one of those crazy pg women on crutches second time around ! Third time I did pregnancy pilates three times a week and saw chiropractor each time it went out. The pilates builds up the core stability and the chiropractor put it all in the right place. Was still walking 4 miles a day, compared to about 20 meters in previous pg.

Maybe I should too then, I was just putting up with it, ha ha! That's just me all over. Let me know how u get on then.

I was 17 weeks yesterday! X

Oh and get dh to rub it each night unless you've just had a treatment. It really helped me.

Tigglettchic · 16/07/2013 20:17

Oh 3bdbunnies, I am sorry, I worry as I will look crazy!!

I may look at Chiropractor, I work full time with long hours so impossible to fit in any classes. I want to stay active and work up until my due date so need to so something.

I may get DH to rub it although he may feel it should lead to something and I am so not in the mood!!(been that way for the 12 weeks!)

Thanks all

Meh, I'm 20 weeks and have had sciatica since 8 weeks :-( Got a referral to the hospital for physio, and really need to chase this up tomorrow ad its driving me nuts. It used to just be bad in the evening, but now its all day, can barely lay down at night and it wakes me up...not to mention I miss out on dog walking in this lush weather. Boo! My sympathies with you all...

I'm sure I did look mad hobbling on my crutches being pulled along by a 20 month toddler in reigns! I did a saturday pilates class plus did a dvd which was specially designed for pregnant women. I wouldn't recommend doing just a dvd though as it really helped at first to have expert guidance. If you don't get on top of it then you may not be able to work to the end. I could barely walk to the car and ended up on codine for the pain. Was going to be induced but she came early anyway. The key thing is though to try to safely build upthe muscles in your pelvis. It can get better though. Now I can look back and laugh at the time I had dd1 on a b&q mobility scooter and she nearly drove us both into a wall of paint!

Tigglettchic · 16/07/2013 21:20

Oh god, were you able to give birth naturally??

I am really worried, I want to be active. I cannot find any pilates classes in my area!

Giving birth was fine - in fact that is half the problem, it's all too loose. Maybe see if you can find a private teacher to help with getting the exercises right- I used a dvd from www.pregalates.com, the second trimester one. I also got a cleaner in, also don't push shopping trolleys etc. If you get dh to rub it you need to ask him to rub it as hard as he can, esp where it really hurts, agony at the time but helps the next day.

Hopefully you won't be as bad as I was, but I beat the odds to have a subsequent easier pregnancy, I did have to keep to the regime and if I stopped then it came back. Sorry if I have scared you, but hopefully you will find a solution to help.

Hi, just wanted to say I had a lot of this pain up until about 14 weeks and then it went away for my second trimester. Was obviously related to the baby's position and uterus growth etc. Fingers crossed!

Tigglettchic · 17/07/2013 19:57

Thank you so much 3, I am not scared just need to know as much as possible so that I can prevent the worst!!!

Emigrated, god I hope so!!!
