exercise tips to help painful pelvis (SPD)?

I'm 22 weeks and for the last week have stabbing pains in back of pelvis while walking; the classic SPD type pain (1st preg, no probs with pelvis before)..

I have been walking an hour a day (to and from work) to get a bit of gentle exercise, but it kills so much I can't! Also doing pilates and other stretches about 3 times a week, which don't hurt.

Can anyone who has had SPD recommend other types of exercise or stretches which can help? I really don't want it to develop into a worse problem... any tips appreciated!

Sqeeze your buttocks and release several times, whilst sitting, lying and standing, as many reps as you can. This strengthens the glut's which will help support your sacroiliac region.

Pelvic floor exercises: draw in your lower ab area towards your spine, but don't engage your large ab's. Draw up the muscles inside your vagina and hold these for a count of 10 before releaseing. Several reps. If this is hard the stop passing urine for a count of 5 then allow the flow for 3 and repeat until the end (only when on toilet tho'Grin) hth
These are the exercises I was given by my PT at 24 weeks with my last and have started them straightaway with my 3rd.

Hi
My physio told me not to exercise with my spd as it only made it worse. Rest and painkillers is what I was prescribed - sorry it's not much help

Have you tried a birthing ball? I had spd with first pregnancy and a bit with this second one and found that sitting on the ball helps.

Same as AggiePanther, lack of exercise seemed the way to go. Would be very interested to know if there is anything that can be done, as am pg again.
