Travel related question with a 4 month old baby

Not sure if this is the right place to pose this question but couldn't work out where else was sensible, so sorry if its inappropriate.

We'll be going on a 2 night trip when the baby is about 4 months old. We could fly which will take about 1 hour in the air but obvious time at the airport after check in etc. Or, we could take the train which would take about 4.5 hours. In my mind I think it would be better to fly but as this is baby number one, I'm not 100% sure! Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences that they can share?

Thanks in advance Smile

Either would be okay. I would rather take the train as considerably less faff, baby can nap in buggy, less cramped conditions so you can walk up & down, rock baby in buggy in the corridor etc.

It's a doddle travelling with a child pre crawling or after Tế age of 2. It's just the bit in between that's challenging!

Do whatever suits you best. Babies this age are pretty easy the travel with in my experience. I've done several long plane flights with a baby of this age with no issues. Feeding during take off and landing avoids any ear issues.

I also think either will be fine. We took ds on an 8 hour flight at that age and he was fine. Perfect even. Like an angel. He smiled at everyone for the first hour or so then slept the next six :)

i have flown loads with dd from about 12 weeks. was totally fine everytime. really not an issue at all. bf on demand on all flights etc. i have often flown on my own with her too and all absolutely fine

If you go by train get a family railcard, you can buy a ticket for the baby to use he card and the discount on the first journey can often outweigh the cost of the card.

Thanks for all the thoughts. Think we're just going to fly. We can book it up now rather than waiting until next year for the train tickets to be released. Will help with costs a bit and it seems like neither is a bad way to travel with a small baby.

Thanks xx

Just got back from a holiday with my 4 month old - 2.5 hour flight each way, he was angelic! Just use boob/bottle/dummy if their ears are popping. My three year old on the other hand ...
