Stilton

I read a thread last week that said stilton is ok, with a link to the NHS website, went to sainsburys today to get some, but on the wrapper it said "not to be consumed by expectant women". I'm confused now, is there more to this than meets the eye?

Thanks :)

No, it's fine. Ignore the label they are just covering themselves. Go by the NHS guidance, it's not wrong. enjoy!

Honestly- it's not a good name. Either for a girl or a boy..........

I'm confused curlew?

Having consumed loads of it today... I hope it's okay. But i've been going by the NHS guidelines... and so far seem listeria free.

ou need to make sure that it is A/ pasteurised and b/ not the soft creamy sort. Firm pasteurised stilton is fine.

It doesn't matter if it's pasteurised or not; hard cheeses are safe:

"You can eat hard cheeses such as cheddar, parmesan and stilton, even if they're made with unpasteurised milk. Hard cheeses don't contain as much water as soft cheeses so bacteria are less likely to grow in them. It is possible for hard cheese to contain listeria, but the risk is considered to be low."

Just FYI.....In France there are NO restrictions on food and they don't seem to be particularly afflicted with Listeria riddled babies! I comfort myself with this when i am stuffing my face with goat's cheese! yummy! Grin

I have munched on camembert, goats cheese, parma ham, runny eggs, smoked salmon etc etc and have had no issues. My little girl is growing beautifully and no signs of listeria yet Grin

Grin at Curlew, that was my first thought as well.

I'd eat Stilton if I was pregnant... I think I did when I was pregnant, even though they said not to at the time...

Ooh i forgot about runny eggs! I had 2 of those this morning. And Curlew....haha! I totally missed that! Grin
