Driving

I am 35+5 and just been out for a drive to a friends 5 minutes away and found I was very uncomfortable at the top of my bump with baby kicking away.
I shouldn't have to drive too much in these final weeks but am a bit worried about the times that I need to. Did any of you give up driving towards the end?

I'm 38+5, still driving, and don't intend to stop. Yes, it's a little uncomfortable and its feels a bit squished, but the furthest I go is about 15 mins.

I stopped driving about 36-37 weeks. i'm only short so need the seat quite far forward and combined with my massive bump i physically couldnt fit safely behind the wheel. I measured 47 inches around Grin

parttimer79 · 15/07/2013 22:19

I stopped long distance driving as I feel so baby brained I feel like I've lost my spatial awareness and concentration after about 20 mins. I stopped at about 34 weeks.

hufflebottom · 15/07/2013 22:23

i had no option, xp, didn't drive and family were too far out to walk, and my family were 'too busy' to see us Sad. but if i had the option i would ave stopped at 36 weeks. was so uncomfortable.

Try leaning your seat backward that way your feet are as close but your belly gets a little extra room, also a pillow in the small of your back can help.

I'm hoping I can drive until 37 weeks as I need to for work, and its quite long distances (5hrs + each way)

oohdaddypig · 16/07/2013 06:09

I drove up to 40 weeks each time out of necessity. If you put your seat back a bit it's easier.

But I agree with the poster about the spatial awareness bit. I had to really concentrate from about 38 weeks - my brain was mush ;)

pinkr · 16/07/2013 22:52

I can fit in my car fine etc but I went through my first ever red light today and that freaked me...brain is indeed mush and I am limiting driving to essential journeys only.

I'm 40+ and still driving, just have my seat back more. Passed my driving test at 38+5 :)

NoComet · 16/07/2013 23:09

Never even thought about it, not driving would be like not breathing, living here.

KobayashiMaru · 16/07/2013 23:10

I drove 25 miles home while in labour. I don't recommend it, but you can drive as long as you feel comfortable.

Rockchick1984 · 17/07/2013 08:54

If you feel uncomfortable, stop. I stopped driving around 36 weeks - combination of discomfort, and mushy brain, I'd never have forgiven myself if I'd caused an accident and potentially hurt DS Sad and when I realised I was unable to fully concentrate on driving I stopped immediately.

mrsspagbol · 17/07/2013 08:59

39+4 here and limiting myself to short, essential journeys only for the reasons mentioned above - I am uncomfy and I am noticing that concentration, ability to see blind spots etc. is not as good as it used to be.

Hate to admit it but yes, brain has been impaired I think and really wouldn't want to hurt anyone including myself and baby so really just popping to the local shops and that kind of thing.

Frustrating. Oh and I will never admit this to DH who has been badgering me about not driving since about 34 weeks Angry

TwoOfThree · 17/07/2013 09:07

I stopped at about 40 weeks. I learned to drive whilst pregnant- well done photographerlady, that's great!- so never driven not pregnant, but I'm just too uncomfy now. I could still drive if it was an emergency, but I'm just giving it a miss for now. I really miss it!
