My sister is pregnant, 13 weeks.

She just had her scan a few days ago and was told she had this.

They just said she would have to be monitored more but I stupidly googled and now I'm worried about her miscarrying, shes tiny anyways only 6 and a half stone, just feeling worried now.

I got misdiagnosed with this in pregnancy (turns out my uterus is normal) and did a lot of research. There is an excellent Yahoo group she or you could join health.groups.yahoo.com/group/MullerianAnomalies/ to find out more.

Many people have no trouble at all (depends on degree of severity etc) so I'd really try not to prejudge and worry too much.

one of my friends has this and had two successful full term pregnancies with no problems. Another of my friends has a full on double uterus and she has also had two successful pregnancies. They will keep an eye on her but there is no reason that there should be problems.

My mum has this - I have 4 siblings!!

Yes, I have a bicornuate uterus and I'm sorry to say it did cause problems later in labour.

During pregnancy my bump was only on one side and my Ds was a small birthweight on the 2nd percentile.

I didn't go into labour naturally and was induced. There were difficulties getting him out because he was in a difficult position and not enough room.

On the very positive side, the consultant obs was amazing and everything turned out absolutely fine.

I have been advised to have a Caesarian if pregnant again, but I do have a very severe case and my womb is almost completely divided in two.

I would make sure your sister has her condition highlighted on the top of her notes, as it's important it stays clearly flagged up for every appointment.

I'd also recommend she talks through her delivery options early with a consultant just to be clear on what's best.

Good luck to her and I hope this helps.

Hi apple.

I have a bicornate uterus (iPad wants to correct it to big ornate which is funny!).

Mines is pretty extreme, bordering on uterus didelphys which is another mullerian anomaly. My womb is totally septate and I had a vaginal septum as well. I have two cervii(cervices?) as well.

I was told when I was diagnosed that there was a high risk I would not carry a baby to term. Dd1 was born at 37 weeks by an induction with minimal fuss although the vaginal septum did tear and I was pretty raw for a few weeks (but it's not like the third degree tears women on here have had)

Dd2 was born by emcs at 32 weeks. She was a footling breech and didn't have room to turn. Like psketti my bumps were one sided which was weird to see and feel but not hugely noticeable. Dd2 was 4 lb 10 at 32 weeks which I am told is rather large and I think she just ran out of room.

There is an increased risk of PRE term labour but now that they know they should keep an eye on her. It's nerve wracking but there are plenty of good stories out there and no real reason why she shouldn't have a healthy baby, although maybe smaller and a bit earlier than usual.

The yahoo group is very good, I used it a lot 9 years ago with dd2.

I worked with someone who had this - she had 3 healthy normal pregnancies - her consultant suggested she elect for a c section so she did, everything was fine Smile

I have this, was told in an early scan that it is almost completely split into two - doesn't quite go down to the bottom though. Was told by consultant 1 in 100 women have it - most will never know unless they have a c section.

I have a dd - who was in the right hand side of my uterus born at 40+6 at 8lb!! I am now pregnant with no2 - which is in the left side of my uterus - am 22 weeks.
I had a completely natural birth - only problem it caused was for the placenta to get stuck and had to have it removed manually... no biggie, but a common side effect of uterine abnormalities. There is a 1 in 5 chance of that happening again this time.

Most important thing about a bicornuate uterus... DON'T GOOGLE!!!!
